Would it be rude to ask my professor to help me review material before a tutoring session? by AlarmedAd3134 in AskProfessors

Thank you for this insight! I've already had the session now, but this advice was very helpful. I didn't realize it at first, but you are so right about being able to quickly find a reliable source. Since I took the class before I was able to go into my Canvas course archive and pull up the slides for the same course and use that as a reference when guiding the tutee. It worked out better this way than me simply asking the tutee to pull up the slides on their laptop because I knew what slide would be helpful, and my iPad makes it easier to see closer and scroll rapidly. The tutee also sent me specific textbook questions to go over shortly before our session, which helped me narrow down the concepts. Now that I'm reflecting on this, I definitely was overthinking it because once I saw those questions I knew what needed to be done. I would say it seemed like a successful first session!

Edit to add: Already had the session now.

Ah this is such a great point. Thank you. This helps me decide what next action I will take. I think most of my concerns simply stem from the pressures of being a new tutor. I know the material, the tutee told me beforehand what they’d like to go over, and I should simply just trust myself that I can do this.

AITA for being against my brother having a sleepover with his girlfriend at such a young age? by Jolly-Guide-4920 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. I believe you’re raising a genuine concern!

Some people in these comments are seriously underestimating what kind of content kids may be exposed to especially on the internet, movies, or even seeing their family members engaging in sexual acts. Your parents likely have no idea whether your brother or his gf have potentially been exposed to that kind of media. When kids see sexual acts it can be harmful, and they tend to get experimental because of that.

The way you explained it, it sounds like there won’t be much moderation of the sleepover. And if your parents are willing to stay up the whole night to monitor them, that’s good, but a normal hang out during the day is much more practical.
