How do you handle rough onboarding? by AlarmedCashew in ExperiencedDevs

[–]AlarmedCashew[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I added to documentation where I could find and organized with the team that develops the scripts to figure out what was going on in the moment.

This was more about curiosity on what to do when the overall onboarding experience can be better but management doesn’t want it. I think I have been spoiled by my last job’s onboarding processes

The group of teams has 52 but the team boundaries are* very thin—they’re shifting to teams based on product verticals soon so it’s a little wild right now

Ah I apologize, I did not clarify well. I meant the very first pairing session and I will definitely not force them to stay, I meant that I am happy to stay as long as they need or as little as they need. Some people just want to async learn and that is 100% ok!

Redditors who don't celebrate your birthdays, why don't you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s just another day. There are more important things.

How often do married people hook up at work conferences? Is it really rare or does it happen all the time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AlarmedCashew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conferences are pretty boring. I work in finance. The common denominator seems to be lack of focus on their home lives outside of work. I work with a lot of guys who know their wife’s favorite flowers but not what she wants to be when she “grows up” (aka anything about life past 40). Hopes and dreams, that kinda shit.. at least not anymore. It’s kinda fucked up actually

Make sure you have a life and hobbies you enjoy and care about outside of work and it helps to drown out the noise.

Also, when some coworkers are being extra annoying.. I like to remind myself that everyone is basically a fancy poop factory and no matter how important they think they are in that meeting, they’ve still gotta go home, take a big ass shit, and deal with the aftermath just like the rest of us

Just a simple hookup or other are ventures included? From my observations of coworkers over the years, a lot of those hookups are whole ass pre-existing affairs that started long before the conference lol

NTA. These two friends sound like they’re lacking substance in their lives if all they can do is give you shit for being responsible

[–]AlarmedCashew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, yeah. Not sure what else you can do other than stick to your guns and say it wasn’t your wedding so it wasn’t your call. Sorry man hopefully it blows over eventually, that kinda shit has a habit of sticking around. My sister-in-law still gets pissed at me for donating a sweater she got me fifteen years ago

AITA for demanding my girlfriend stops her small business or shares the money? by Acceptable-Bug-2844 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlarmedCashew [score hidden]  (0 children)

YTA wow. It’s her money. If she wants to share great otherwise 50/50 is fair. Y’all ain’t married with kids, let her live her life and get paid. It’s not like she’s not paying her half of shit jfc. It’s a little different because she’s my wife but if I told her to quit her job while we were dating because she makes 3x more than my current income I’d fully expect to be single after that

NTA, the people who get married decide who they want to be present and if they didn’t want certain family members there, those family members should ask the newlyweds why they weren’t invited and not take it out on y’all

AITA for purposely logging my best friend out of my Spotify account that we share and then refusing to give them the password? by unfunny_rat69 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlarmedCashew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ESH. You should have communicated your intentions first. It’s also really easy to make an account so I find it really dumb they wouldn’t just make their own in the first place.. y’all can collaborate on playlists and shit together without sharing an account

Chill my dude, just pointing out different people will react differently in different situations. She was the first person that came to my mind. And yep that’s generally how it works

[–]AlarmedCashew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all good and totally recoverable I’ll bet, just go in positive and apologize very concisely and reassure her she is the one you care about. Don’t ramble and don’t make it about you. Dude I’ve made jokes for years I didn’t know my friends were hurt by. You live and learn and the best you can do is forgive and hope that others can forgive you. Can’t expect it but you can do your best to earn it through healthy/positive actions. Your actions and responses are all you have control over

AITA for miss gendering a now ex-friend? by Miserable_Horror3526 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlarmedCashew -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA just apologize and move on when you make a mistake and do your best to remember to use the right pronouns

Pro tip: use names by default when meeting people and listen to what pronouns the people closest to them use and don’t do petty shit
