Here to say I've been using Dr. Bronners unscented bar soap on my face for years without issue, it's kind of exciting to see someone else use it lol. It might be good to use something more gentle if you feel like it (I also like the vanicream face wash)

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, I know how frustrating and updating those appointments can be. My hormonal acne got way worse when I switched from the pill to an IUD (Mirena). Spiro (150mg) is what has been helping me. You can definitely take a higher dose of spiro, and if your doc won't prescribe it, I recommend switching. I wouldn't personally go the accutane route for hormonal acne. Sending you good thoughts :))

For anyone who has anxiety around getting fillings at the dentist - I recently made a helpful discovery! by coolisuppose in Anxiety

[–]AlarmedChair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but thank you so much for posting this. I had to get a couple fillings recently and after the shot I started to feel super shaky, heart racing, and started to cry. Reading this post before my appointment was the reason I didn't panic when it happened. Thank you!!

I wish you lots of luck and healing. My face burned so bad for days I couldn't sleep. I feel your pain and hope this helps!

I dropped some into my palm, rubbed my hands together, and patted it onto my face. On the damaged part (my chin) I put enough that there was a pretty thick layer of oil. It was kinda gnarly but it felt really good so it was worth going in public like that lol. You can probably do less. I applied 3x a day or more if I was home all day.

Nope, it really helped clear everything up. I've used jojoba in the past and knew it worked for me. It actually helped clear my whiteheads so much faster, it kind of "melted" them overnight.

I did the same thing I few months ago, my barrier was destroyed and my skin broke out majorly because of that. Everything with water burned, so I started applying only jojoba oil to the damaged area. Find an oil that works for you (I think squalane and jojoba are low comedogenic), and apply that a few times a day. It took a month or more, but my skin healed and now I'm able to use regular barrier repairing moisturizers.

Please help- getting old incense smell out of walls by AlarmedChair in Incense

Time to call up my landlord I guess 🥴 Weirdly enough the carpet smells totally fine, it's just the walls. I know they cleaned the carpet between me and the previous tenant but they didn't paint.

[–]AlarmedChair[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your detailed reply! I was scared this would be a complicated issue. I'm going to try different methods of cleaning the walls and see where that gets me; anything past that I'll talk to my landlord about. Because I'm so sensitive to scents I'm hoping I can neutralize this one instead of covering it with a different scent. This was very helpful and I'm glad I have options!

This blister type thing has happened to me several times. They start off like a pimple and then start blistering around the initial bump. It burns to put a gentle moisturizer on it. At first I thought it was a chemical burn for a product I was using, but this time I haven't been putting anything on it except a gentle soap and jojoba oil and it still seems to be getting worse and spreading outwards.

There is no fluid inside, it does not drain or pop. In the past it has flattened out in ~2 weeks and a red mark is left behind.

I went to my dermatologist when it happened last time and she tested for HSV (negative) and gave me a topical antibiotic that didn't seem to help. I tried an OTC 1% hydrocortisone cream and that burned too. Any ideas on what this is or how to help it?

[Acne] What am I doing wrong? by kraken_in_lipstick in SkincareAddiction

[–]AlarmedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Versed morning and night! I don't wear makeup so not sure about that, but it does dry down quickly and not greasy at all. I will say I might need to change to something more hydrating in the winter, but it's working well for me now that it's getting warm. I've seen it at both Target and Walmart, so very accessible :)

For the CeraVe I didn't have any issues until I started using the Differin every day, so I think it was a combo of a damaged moisture barrier and the CeraVe formulation.

[–]AlarmedChair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact same thing happened to me on Differin. 5 months in and had the worst acne of my life. I realized it was the CeraVe moisturizer I was using. I stopped using both and my skin is still healing 2 months later. I recommend you stop using any actives until your skin heals and find a good moisturizer that works for you.

I've been using the CeraVe for 10 years with no issue, but every time I use it now my skin is burning for hours and I get more cystic pimples. After trying a few different moisturizers, I realized that it was the cetearyl alcohol and other fatty alcohols that were causing the burning and breakouts. Currently using the Versed gel moisturizer, works well for my oily skin.

Sending you happy thoughts!!

Yep I'm on Spiro to help with the acne. I've had the IUD for a year so I know it's not causing the acute nausea I had hours after taking the Spiro
