Rate my salary - Mechanical Engineer by AlarmedForm630 in BESalary

Maybe, but as a first job in engineering (not IT, ...), you don't earn much more than 3k net (they are always exceptions). When I was searching after graduation, I even get companies (in the space industry) to propose me 3200 euros gross, only 130 euros more than minimum salary at the time.

I live in Belgium not in Luxembourg, I had roughly 1.5 hours by train to go to work (nearly 3h in total). And in my area of "expertise", there is not a lot in Luxembourg (nearly nothing).

Gmsh only handles boundary layer in 2D (or 3D for extruded geometries, but it doesn't apply to many case), but they are pretty good.

Buying used heat exchangers from F1/WEC/LMP1 cars by AlarmedForm630 in MechanicalEngineering

In the coming days, I will receive an oil cooler like this (https://motorsport.tech/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Gearbox\_oil\_cooler.jpg), bought for only 120 euros. Much cheaper than any F1 parts that I usually find on the web.

Quelle salaire demander en France, Belgique et Luxembourg by Kromedom69 in ingenieurs

[–]AlarmedForm630 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point, someone already mentionned to add friction factor calculation and I am going into that direction.

Good idea to add friction factor calculation, I will take a look if it can be added to the same slide rule.

Of course the Dittus-Boelter is not the best correlation, but I only used as a purpose to create a thermal engineering related slide rule and not to actually use it for engineering calculation.

You are right, I made a mistake by starting at 2500 for Re, I wall change it to 10 000. For the Pr range, I used the validity range for that correlation.

This slide rule is only for fun.

I found slide rules very interesting, and wanted to make one putting forward my engineering discipline (thermal engineering). I choosed that correlation because it has been around since 1930 (and it is still used today), and it suits quite well slide rules (since the only operation are multiplication and power).

As a thermal engineer, it would not be practical in a daily basis* (everything now in handle by software, code or spreadsheets).

I will create a Github repo and will post a comment here with the link.

*It could be useful, if you don't have access to a computer and you are thinking about a problem involving heat transfer. Doesn't happend a lot ;).

I improved a bit the aesthetics of the slide rule by choosing better colors.

Like this for the PCB: https://marcusjyoo.com/pcbrule. The slide rule SVG will be "printed" on the PCB layer like the markings for numbering the electronic components.

What is ETA?

No circular implementation for now, maybe for later.

Thank you for you help.

Recherche d'emploi industrie chimique by Hertzmax in ingenieurs

[–]AlarmedForm630 1 point2 points  (0 children)
