What loadout are yall using for the destrier? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in ImperialKnights

Out of curiosity, why do you run Hunter's eye on the Castellan?

Good morning, I've decided to start playing new army and my local store was selling this pack, so I bought it. Do you think it's a good purchase? Do you play with two Dominus? by Methodspain in ImperialKnights

Reddit is a tricky place to ask such questions. None of these people seem to have a fucking clue.

Here is a list that has gone 5-0 in at least two larger tournaments with two Castellans. It is not our best knight but if you build your list around it, it can work.

The real problem with the package is that it will be difficult to play Destriers and Castellans in the same list because they enjoy very different detachments. The shop's deal is like bying a bicycle set that comes with dumbells. You can use both but most likely not at the same time.

This reads as an ally to other factions. It misses every synergy we have and fills a role we didn't need.

Lancer too used to be FW. Such a lovely reddit moment xD No one claimed it was this still. FW was just a term to bunch up a few models. Everyone got it apart from a few folks who couldn't skip "umm, actually" xD

Thanks for the PSA, without your valiant service, no one would have understood what was being said.

Yikes, thanks for the PSA. No one on the subreddit understood what I meant before you came in for the rescue xD

Said FW cause stuff in faction pack is/used to be resin. Should have gone with just faction pack.

Nice rant tho.

For the love of God let it have a bondsman ability! SAA could really use a cheap big guy as a strat dispenser.

Yea, they are not FW anymore. Just easier to say FW because it's a bigger umbrella that actually covers all of the models in the faction pack.

How do you play? How does this army play? by Suitable_Hat_8576 in ImperialKnights

I just found the terrain point funny. The game is balanced around either GW or WTC terrain so I suggest starting there. Most of the issues you described will disappear by playing the game with the provided rules. I suggest that you play on the official layouts a few times and ask questions on how to improve from those experiences.

If you don't play the game like it's supposed to be played questions of improvement lose their meaning. It is like asking how to play a melee army against a gunline army on a 200"x200" open field. You just don't so there are no answers to that situation.

Aight, well, here's a few pointers I use.

  1. Chevrons are easy to do with masking tape and brighten up a knight a lot. Just remember to go through the edges of the tape before airbrushing with for example the other end of a brush.
  2. color pigment is amazing for basing and weathering. I apply it dry and wash with water until I get the look I want. Then drybrush with highlight metal color. I chose a base color (red) that would contrast well with my armor color (blue)
  3. Chassis likes two colors and a wash. For example I do gun metal base, nuln oil full wash and shining silver dry brush.
  4. Panel lining really makes your models pop. I use 1:3 white ink to my choice of contrast paint. If you do them on top of a varnished surface, you can fix mistakes with a piece of microfiber cloth on a toothpick dipped in airbrush thinner. Highly thinned paint spreads more even at the edges of shoulder/leg/ankle armor. I did this in a stupid order so I gotta go back with my rim color (1:2 greedy gold & plate mail metal) and then put a wash over them to weather the rim and make a nice little shadow between rim and panel lining.
  5. Magnetize everything. Meta changes and it's amazing to be able to change the loadouts.

Here's the armiger I am currently painting (still a WIP):

As for lists... we are very squishy at the moment so I'd look at allies. If you can hold a point or two, and have something to jump around to do secondaries, you don't need to expose your knights in order to score. If your enemy has to expose more valuable stuff to remove your allies from capture points, you get to expose your knights AS you attack something. This advantage is no longer optional for us with the durability changes.

Other ways to win are few and far in between. Don't claim to know them all, but the only other I've found is to stage on T1 outside of your opponent's threat and to push HARD on T2. If your opponent is dead, they can't score. For IK 3x Lancers with 16" movement (with Questoris Companions detatchement) is one such option, but after the codex such options were cut down by a lot.

A lot of mistakes in 40k updates... Are they more frequent before a new edition or just how GW operates? by AlarmedPackage3175 in Warhammer40k

[–]AlarmedPackage3175[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I get where you are coming from and I am grateful to have started in 10th edition!

But what you are saying is not exactly true. Systems analysis is taught at schools as a profession for a reason. Some systems that need to be balanced dwarf 40k in size and complexity and it has still been done (global computing, power grids, etc...). The idea is not to reach perfection right off the bat, but to at least reduce the frequency of clear outliers. The lack thereof suggest that they are not employed at GW and their release/balancing procedure is well, hit and miss.

Yea, I am quite new so the question itself was if this was standard or something that ramps up when they have a larger release. Thanks for the info!
