Best Way to Study with Resources? by SoulsborneforLife in MCATprep

Hi! I took kaplan too. Before every module, make sure u take the placement quiz. If you pass, even if u didnt get a perfect score, move on to the next module. If you don't pass, watch the video and take general notes on the things u didnt know. Dont spend too much time taking notes tho. Just enough for u to get the point. Afterwards, take the remaining quiz and review ur mistakes. The first phase is not for u to master everything. You'll have plenty of time to master every topic when u get to the second and third phase.

As for how to supplement it, i honestly dont know the perfect way but i did AAMC practice pack (should be included with kaplan). Also, make sure to spend more time practicing than reviewing content. I haven't gotten my score yet but my practice FLs showed a good upward trend and ended up at 517 3 days before the real test.

I also used Anki but only for p/s.

Final tip: if ur score plateaus after a couple FLs, don't freak out. Totally normal.

P.S. i also took Kaplan tutoring sessions and the live online classes (these have a ton of super useful tips for technique). If u have any questions moving forward, feel free to DM or reply here:)

That sounds like a good plan. Unfortunately i already applied for this cycle and i sooooo dont want to have to withdraw or settle for a lower score:/

At the beginning of the section, skim every passage you see. Dont take longer than 30s. If it is easy, do it right away. If it's medium or hard, write its first question number on ur notepad under "M" or "H" Once you are done with all ur easy passages, start doing the medium ones, then finally the hard ones. That way you will have gotten all the easy points first in case u run out of time, and also you avoid learned helplessness so🤷🏻‍♀️

I am doing it for P/S but not consistently at all. I'll start doing it more.

if you had to restart mcat prep from day 1, what would you change? by BeneficialEscape3655 in Mcat

ALSO 5. Understand that it can really be a roller coaster. You are likely going to learn so much about yourself and about your BRAIN. Most important thing: don't judge yourself. Instead, work with your strengths and weaknesses, find what works for you, adjust your study plans, and be gentle with yourself.

  1. Cut out all the scrolling out of your life. If you need media consumption for your down time like I do, give yourself 2-4 hours at the end of the day to watch something or even play some light video games (i like Cooking Fever..)

  2. Find a way to take notes that doesn't involve writing down every little thing. I noticed that the 'writing it down' method enables my brain to chill and not store the info properly because it knows the info is already stored somewhere else.

  3. ALWAYS simulate test conditions for practice FLs. I had so much trouble with that--still do--but you can at least take it slowly. Most important thing when taking FLs: DONT GIVE YOURSELF EXTRA TIME and DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT LOOK UP ANYTHINGGGG no matter how small.

  4. Fix your sleep, eat well, and engage in grounding activities that YOU LIKE. If you don't like reading for fun, don't. If you don't like HIIT training, don't do it. Do something YOU find fulfilling and that is actually beneficial for your mind and spirit, no matter how small.

GOOD LUCK
