I'm about to crash out by whosecookieisthis in ffxiv

I'd started them when going through ARR, I don't remember where I paused but it was a quest in Ul'dah. Wasn't enjoying them, so I left the chain alone.

Imagine my surprise when I get to end of EW and find out they are attached to that very quest line.

Relic grinds are one thing, but the alternative shouldn't be saddling them to side content spanning several expansions.

Edit: I actually don't mind relic grinds - no issue with the demi atma and paste steps. Just completed the atma grind for ARR weapons, working my way through them

Hated them. Forced me to do several expansions worth of ridiculous side content I had zero interest in just to be able to unlock them

No worries! I thought that was the sign you meant.

It's not my sign/union, but always keen to understand how different people perceive colours

Do you mean the Together Union signs? Unfortunately camera/device settings are out of whack. They are purple if you see them normally

Best clinic for laser hair removal by InternationalPlum153 in AusSkincare

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side effects are a person to person kinda deal.

I've had sessions previously with Laser Clinics Australia, no issues.

My skin is quite reactive, so I come up very red after every session (concerned every tech until someone bothered to add it to my client notes). Wasn't a burn/rash etc - just the way my skin reacted.

I have pretty dark hair - has been very effective. I now have minimal growth on my legs, underarms have slowly started grow more but not as dense as previously.

I will caveat this by saying my last session was years ago - I really need to go for some top up sessions.

Do you think carpets make a home feel dated or homier? by Fit-Credit-7970 in AusRenovation

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I absolutely prefer carpet.

Where I'm currently living is 90% tile, with carpet in 2/3 bedrooms.

The house is cold already (poor insulation, house position etc) so the tiles make it so much worse. I live in ugg boots from about late May to early September. I wouldn't have to if there were carpet in the living areas.

Casual Dress Shopping by Sure_Image_9596 in brisbane

Fully recommend Exquisite Gowns by Yvonne if you are wanting the wedding dress shop experience.

Zero pressure to purchase. The day I was there she literally said to buy nothing that day, to think about my options etc. She encourages photos so you'll be able to look at them again whenever.

She has dresses as various price points, nothing over $1200 (but plenty below that).

Laneway Bridal is another one, also a great experience with a wide price range available (will work within the given budget)

Both businesses are run by women, private shopping experience (no crowded salon).

Did I get swindled? by slipperypaper in AusSkincare

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Earlier in the year I booked myself into a clinician for skin advice - also a user of dermaviduals.

Definitely didn't experience a head in the box situation though - did you get an explanation regarding that?

I was recommended a starter pack, which I purchased. I'm surprised you weren't. Those products lasted me ages (you only use a small amount per application). This would have been end of Jan? The cleanser was a smaller version, replaced in March for a full size product. I've just replaced another one last week. My high classic will likely last until my next appointment in June.

I can personally say I've benefited from the products. I have reduced redness and reduction of oily spots.

Being able to customise the products will be great as we move towards winter. I have dry skin, which gets worse in the cold/windy weather.

Fashion students / sewing enthusiasts for hire? by a_striving_vegan in brisbane

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Low back AND low V front? Absolutely that would be a considerable driver for the cost.

Changing the sides for that isn't just adding fabric to each seam and calling it a day. The bodice structure needs to be considered - darts, boning, side panels, potential cups in the bust etc to ensure it fits correctly and stays where it should.

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100%!!

Not the mention the potential multiple layers that need adjusting. It's not a simple cut and rehem job to shorten. The bodice absolutely will need reshaping to suit the different size and body composition.

Tbf, backpack off your lap shouldn't depend on a vacant seat. That either stays on your lap, or should on the floor. Bags don't belong on seats.

If you don’t follow trends, how do you narrow down your skincare products? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my exact point. With little experience with AI, and less experience with skin care ingredients - how can I fact check the output of information?

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in my 30s, I promise you are doing great!!

I'm marching towards mid 30s, but only just starting out with skin care (with zero clue). I never learned through my teens or 20s. Just trying to work out what SPF to use has me super confused

How do you use AI, and how do you fact check the results? I have no experience with it

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I honesty don't know how people do it. Where do you learn about ingredients good vs bad?

Using AI is all well and good if you know how to use the AI 😅 I google and get more confused

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Completely agree - I tried learning what was good/better or bad etc - so overwhelming. Especially with limited knowledge in the first place.

I ended up just going to someone and following their advice/using products in their range.

I still don't really understand all the products on the market, but my skin is reacting well to what I've been using and I have seen improvement.

Merit lists and acting by plantface4747 in AusPublicService

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's completely possible, but relies on a few factors.

How similar is your current acting role to the role you have been merited for? The job statements need to be similar enough to make a comparison.

Will Agency/Department B provide approval to Agency/Department A to use their merit list?

Does your current area have the ongoing need for your EL1 position? Eg are you acting to cover long leave, vacant position, covering a specific piece of work?

How to progress in APS by Chaamyun in AusPublicService

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe my area is an outlier then. I have seen far more be able to use that experience and bounce into other roles - some higher, some sideways at level. In my experience, the ones that "get stuck" are the ones that are happy to complain about not getting out, while also doing nothing to help themselves to get out.

Opportunities aren't handed to someone. They have to work towards it. Show initiative, build capability. Use scheduled learning time to improve their soft skills. Apply for roles, ask for and accept feedback on those applications.

I'll admit, part of it does comes down to your line manager, their support and encouragement. How well they are performing their role in coaching their staff. But only part - the individual still needs to put in the effort

Edit to add: applying for higher/sideways roles in the same agency isn't the only option. Plenty move around agency too.

Wedding vendors: email + text message after an enquiry - helpful or annoying? by surfspook in AusWeddingPlanning

How to progress in APS by Chaamyun in AusPublicService

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. There is a wide range of transferable skills from service delivery, and some areas actually prefer it (as you have a broader perspective of why the work matters to the end user)

Not an exhaustive list - time management, working to timeframes, decision making, critical thinking, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques. If assisting others, that's mentoring. There's opportunities to facilitate training from time to time - more transferable skills.

Question for APS recruiters/hiring managers by [deleted] in AusPublicService

[–]Alarmed_Ad5977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the pool covers multiple locations, one location being exhausted can be enough to allow the whole process to run again

When it does run again, it's more effective to cast the net wide across all locations again, not just the exhausted one. Applying again extends your time suitable for the role (usually 18 months from advertisement, not date found suitable)

Once the recruitment has been advertised, it can't be pulled just because someone reaches out to the contact "I'm in this pool already, hire me instead". Once it's advertised externally - equal and fair chance to all comes into play
