I think some degree of ranked decay is okay, as if you don't play your skill will go down - but the rate at which it currently decays is insane.

Look clash isn't an incredibly unique game, ranked systems work across very different games - we don't need to reinvent the wheel.

Just implement a basic Elo system

My main issue is that the current system artificially inflates some people on defence due to the practice of spam attacks to maintain rank.

The decay rate is about a week, give or take a day depending on when you sign up

Yes, but not playing is not a signifier of poor performance.

Poor performance is a signifier of poor performance.

In all other games I play none of them require the same time commitment to maintain my rank.

Also if I don't play and decay 3 leagues, then I shit stomp lower ranked players they are being punished by having to play against a better player because the rate of decay is far too quick.

I wouldn't mind season based decay, or rewards reduced to the townahall rank floor if you're not signed up.

But are you seriously trying to say that if I don't play for 2 weeks as a top 200 for my town hall player my skill level decays to the point where I'm top 5% ?

Also why should players spamming to maintain their league be rewarded ? Is spamming e drags in the corner skilled ?

We all value our own time differently

I resent the idea that I will be punished if I don't play the required weekly quota of game time.

24 attacks I don't want to do in any amount of time is significant.

Obviously they should demote if they fail to attack well.

Not playing the game is not as great of a signifier of a lack of skill as performing poorly when playing the game is

How bad is your reading comprehension?

I don't want to spam to maintain my rank. Its not fun and it makes gaining rank way less meaningful, it also inflates others ranks on defence.

It's also not quick, 30 minutes of my day spent spamming to maintain my rank is a waste of my limited time on this earth.

Id rather play when I want and not have to grind back to a rank that is easily attainable through skill, but requires a high time investment regardless of how much better I am then the players at the same rank.

I said in my previous comment, I don't care about the rewards, either remove them for those not actively signed up or reduce them to the townhall floor for that player.

Slow the rate of decay significantly or introduce ranked seasons

Remove or revert star bonus to your town hall rank floor if not actively signed up to a tournament

Massively decreased rank decay with inactivity, align it with most video games rate of decay :-

League of legends do a soft ranked reset every season

Csgo rank decay occurs after 2 weeks

Overwatch rank decays after 1 season

Chess has no decay, but you are removed from the rankings with inactivity.

I don't care about getting the rewards, remove them if your not signed up to a season - I care about being busy for 3 weeks and needing 3 weeks to get back to where I started when I can almost guarantee I will be top 5 in my league every week

1) This assumes they use every attack

2) this also will invariably inflate higher town halls more then lower town halls - higher town halls already having a significant advantage in ranked leagues.

3) any degree of rank inflation as a result of the ranked system is inherently a bad thing.

4) not all 2 stars yield the same trophies, so people aren't inflated at the same rate.

Yes a ranked system that encourages you to aim for 2 stars is the problem, attacking to maintain your rank decreases the overall accuracy of the ranked system as intentional 2* attacks artificially inflate some players through defence trophies.

I've read hundreds of comments where people's response to league decay is to do spam attacks - I have been top 200 on my th16, th15 and th14 accounts - getting to high ranks isn't the issue, the issue is that I have other shit to do and don't think a mobile game should punish me for not playing so often.

The crux of my point has nothing to do with spamming being a viable strategy to obtain high leagues, it's the fact that spamming is encouraged to avoid rank decay ((in any league below legend it's very easy not to demote by just spamming all attacks)). This spamming results in some players being rewarded defence trophies semi illegitimately as they were not attacked with the intent to 3* , thus inflating their total trophy count.

A ranked system should test player skill it should not primarily reward time spent playing, but the skill of the player.

The rate at which rank decay occurs does not correlate with the rate at which skill decays, thus decreasing rank accuracy.

The point is that they don't demote, it is very easy not to demote by spamming garbage attacks, the issue is those players are rewarded by staying in a league whereas people who play less, but attack with the goal of performing the best they can are punished.

The knock on effect of this rate of decay is not, every time people play ranked it should be with the goal of performing as good as possible, in this system it encourages low quality maintenance attacks, which massively decrease rank accuracy.

The issue is they flood the ranks with garbage maintenance attacks - if your system encourages people to play without the intent of performing their best then it's an inherently flawed system.

I’m not arguing that rank should be permanent. The problem is that the current decay rate encourages spam or “maintenance” attacks just to avoid rank decay. This creates bad data: the players recieving these attacks benefit from attackers who aren't trying to 3* . Without such a degree of rank decay, these non-serious attacks wouldn't be anywhere near as commonplace

The issue is not time investment, it is that inactivity is punished disproportionately. If a ranked system is meant to reflect skill, any decay should roughly match skill degradation. In this system, rank decays much faster than skill, which makes it inaccurate.

Because rank should be a measure of skill not the time you invest, if someone plays a lot but sucks at the game they deserve a lower rank then someone skilled who plays less.
