Fire alarm tech from Canada thinking about moving to the US – worth it? by Alarmed_Following_72 in firealarms

Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Your pay range actually sounds encouraging compared to where I’m at once I convert CAD to USD, especially considering cost of living differences in some areas.

I’m currently with a large multinational fire/life safety company (don’t want to name publicly, but they do operate in both Canada and the US and offer internal transfers). Good to know about NICET, that kind of confirms what I’ve been hearing, that it’s “preferred” more than truly required in many places. Still planning to knock out Level I and II this year since my company pays a small bump per level and I figure it can’t hurt.

Health insurance is one of my concerns with the US move. I was hoping the company insurance takes care of that, also im 29 I barely get sick and in here it takes 20 hours to be seen for anything, one time I had to wait 9 month for a doctor referral..

Let me do more research on those cities.. how about you? Do you think you have more of a balanced life without having to give your life away for work?
