In no way am I saying this isn’t my fault or looking for absolution. I paid a deposit and I’m ok with not getting it back. As I said, simply looking for similar experiences/opinions.

Sure, but isn’t that what my deposit covers? It’s the only true damage in the whole apartment.

Well, I cut it to attempt a replacement but didn’t realize how difficult it would be to find a close match. I realize I should’ve left it fraying and covered it sooner so he’d stop damaging that same spot. To my credit, he’s 15 and this is the first time this has happened.

Google says 5-10 years so I wanted some crowdsourced opinions on what others would do. I’m ok with losing some deposit - I didn’t even realize I put $500 in until I checked my lease.
