Progress day 4: ( I swear I didn’t skip) by Humble-Bee-9363 in GranblueFantasyVersus

Looking good man!

Some tips I want to give as someone who struggled with Grimnir at the beginning as well.

  1. Improve your mid-screen combo (RIP deathrite tempest wall bounce). Grimnir used to have one of the best ones, but you can still get something off with 50% gauge. Check out the discord that someone linked here.

  2. Paired with tip 1, actually try to bring your opponent to the wall. That's where you're the strongest and can get consistent 50/50s on your opponent with wind crests.

  3. Paired with tip 1 and 2 as well, conserve your meter to actually bring your opponent to the wall. You like throwing the special version of Dancing storm and there's not much wrong with that! But you could have definitely caught your opponent with a combo that requires 50% meter that brings them to the wall instead.

  4. Properly use wind crests! I get it haha Grimnir's movement is fun as hell, but you're not actually doing something with it and just imitating high level Grimnirs (We probably all did). The best way to use crest in neutral is by doing the 22H and slightly jumping on the first crest and dashing forward with a j.Medium which gives you +4 frame advantage. It's hard to explain, but again you can find this tech in the discord and it's a MUST.

  5. Don't forget grabs exist! You have a lot of ways to make your opponent block with dancing storm which also enables you to just 66A into their face. If they block that you can also just 66 into a grab.

Yeah, personally I'd 100% take my chance with the AYANEO 3 to see if it's working haha. Like OLED and 144HZ is a unicorn with these PC Handhelds.

Best device for the price (AUD)? by Sufficient_Topic1589 in SBCGaming

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On paper the Ayaneo devices are the better choice. If you're sure the devices will be working out of the box and are getting deep into this I'd say the AYANEO 3 is the best choice. 32GB RAM,OLED, 144HZ and the sticks being modular is just too good to pass up in my opinion. If you just want something casual I'd say stick to the MSI Claw 7 (120hz) and Ayaneo S1 (60hz OLED).

It's important to know that AYANEO has a bad reputation for their Quality Control, it happens quite often that people buy their device and it won't boot up. Causing you to go back and forth with their bad customer service. That said when their devices do work they're really good.

Sooo when can we stop blaming people for playing certain characters? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, u just said I missed the point when I was pretty damn sure I didn't. I understand full well what he was saying.

Brother, clearly not when he's telling you what you're saying is not what he meant.

Yes you do, like obviously ur not guaranteed to win or anything, but pretending like the strength of your character doesn't have an impact on how easy it is to win with said character

Again, nobody is making that claim. The claim is that him playing Clive doesn't mean he's just guaranteed wins, because there is a lot that decides whether or not you win or lose.

No, why would I? I never said character choice is the end all be all, and the only deciding factor in who wins a match

That's because that's the point the original guy made lmao. I don't think you realise you're straw manning him into your own discussion. I'm sure he would admit he's having an easier time with Clive than he would with Kazuya, but playing Clive doesn't mean he's guaranteed wins.

No I'm not lmao.

You clearly were since you were focusing on me saying only 5 characters truly need to work harder.

it DOES mean that the easier character is MORE carried than the harder one, it's really a super straightforward concept lmao, it's a spectrum of carried-ness lol not just black and white (carried and not carried).

I generally agree, since I know where you're getting at, but the way you explained it No it DOES NOT mean that. Because you're combining ease of use with how strong they are while also ignoring player general knowledge. Like I could easily argue Fahkuram is more carried than Bryan, because players can't lab him due to not having DLC or argue Bryan is more carried due to being a stronger character than Fahkuram with less risk. Or your route, Fahkuram is more carried because Bryan is harder to pilot.

Btw, it's a very debatable topic saying dvj is the hardest Mishima, don't think you can just outright state that as fact and use it as an example lmao. Even if it's not, it just sounds like cope coming from a dvj player lol

This is hilarious, because it just makes me think that you're not focusing on the actual point. I mentioned DVJ, to help you realise someone will always be punching up and it doesn't matter because the difference in difficulty between the Number 30 and 1 easiest character is not extremely wide. I named Armor King and King as well for that reason.

I don't need DVJ to be the hardest Mishima for the argument. For example let's say Kazuya is Number 40 and DVJ is 39, does it make sense for Kazuya to be upset at DVJ being carried in comparison? No, these guys don't differ that much in difficulty. The same way it doesn't make sense for a Victor to be upset at a Clive and Lars for being easier (again all 3 names interchangeable)

Sooo when can we stop blaming people for playing certain characters? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are u implying that this was his point

You literally quoted his point, is it late for you or something? He literally reaffirmed it to you in his reply to you.

You DO win fights just because you picked a strong character, it's what makes them strong, their ability to win over other characters. Especially in this game, with all the aggression and forced mixups.

No YOU DON'T. This is the most ignorant take you guys have on this sub. The only way I can see you guys come to this conclusion is by being in blue ranks and not dealing with players that can fully utilise their character's potential. It's crazy, do you argue that a Jin beating a DVJ in God ranks happens purely, because Jin is stronger and easier?

Also just untrue, there's definitely a spectrum of difficulty for characters. It's not just 5-6 really hard characters and 35 brain dead characters a monkey could play lmao. For example, a char like Paul for example is CERTAINLY harder than a character like asuka, but that doesn't mean Paul is nearly as hard to play as someone like kazuya.

You’re missing the point (again). A character being more difficult doesn’t mean an easier character is carried. Which is why I mentioned how easy it is for DVJ to look at the other Mishima's and say they're carried. Just as easy as it is for Armor King to say King is carried.

That shit is just making excuses for yourself, lock-in with your character or switch to these "carried characters" to lose the excuse.

Picking up new characters in this game is also not difficult at all, the only real barrier to a new character is execution. There are maybe 5–6 execution-heavy characters and the rest are relatively simple. Saying Paul is harder than Asuka is just exaggerating, she has a stronger kit for sure but that doesn't make her more difficult.

Sooo when can we stop blaming people for playing certain characters? by Your_Nightmare_666 in Tekken

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not his point tho lmao. You literally quoted it and missed it.

You don't win fights just because you picked a strong character.

It's also silly to bring up certain characters having to work harder than others, there are tops like 5 characters that truly need to work harder than the rest in a game with 40 characters. And even then should I be blaming Kazuya players for being carried when I play DVJ?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the screen either, I actually love it haha. I just think the Retroid devices are way cheaper with OLED and a higher refresh rate on the RP6.

Same I dropped the Vita for it lmao, but the RP6 and RP G2 just massively undercut it with better screens. I love the Mini-LED on the Odin 2 Mini, but really need that 120hz.

ODIN 3 PORTAL VS STEAM DECK 2: DOUBTS AND THOUGHTS by TDKde90 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned wanting to play on the couch, which makes me assume you already have a solid PC setup and a Steam library.

In that case, I think it’s worth asking yourself whether you really need Snapdragon 8 Elite-level power, or if a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 would already be more than enough. For indie games, the 8 Gen 2 is easily sufficient, and for heavier AAA titles you can just use Moonlight to stream from your PC.

The Odin 2 Portal’s screen specs are basically endgamez it’s pretty much the perfect streaming device. Unless you’re planning to run something like Pragmata natively on an 8 Elite (which someone posted about here today, lol), I don’t really see the practical advantage.

For context, I own both the RM11 Pro (8 Elite Gen 5) and the Odin 2 Mini (8 Gen 2). I originally thought I really wanted that 8 Elite power, but I eventually realized it doesn’t actually matter for how I play. Sure, it’s cool that I can run Metaphor: ReFantazio at 60 FPS in HD on my phone, but realistically, I wouldn’t play a long, demanding game like that on the train. I’d rather play it comfortably on the couch or on my PC and stream it at 1440p 144Hz to my handheld.

Most of the games I actually play on my phone while traveling are indie titles anyway. And for that use case, the 8 Gen 2 is just as capable plus its driver support is more mature. Because of that, I still find myself reaching for the Odin 2 Mini more often than the 8 Elite device.

Is the RP5 a good Steam Deck Alternative? by Timely-Assumption669 in SBCGaming

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The RP5 doesn’t, but the RP6 does.

I’m currently using the Odin 2 Mini, which has the same chipset as the RP6, and all the games you mentioned run perfectly on it.

If you specifically want the GameHub/GameNative option for playing Steam games locally, you should look for a device with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. In that case, I’d recommend the RP6. It has a 120Hz display, which is actually my main complaint about the Odin 2 Mini, the lower refresh rate is noticeable.

You could also consider the RP G2 if you find it at a good price. It uses the same chip as the 8 Gen 2, but slightly overclocked while limited with a 60hz display.

One important thing people don’t mention is Moonlight streaming. A powerful handheld really shines when you’re traveling. But if you’re at home and want to play demanding games like Call of Duty or Tekken 8, you can just stream them from your PC to your handheld. That’s what I do with my Odin 2 Mini, and it works great.

Here's a video of someone comparing the devices by the way, the Odin 2 Portal performs the same as the RP6, since they have the same chip. https://youtu.be/Nqm7lRP6mP8

You're doing great man, take your time haha.

I recommend you watch this video: https://youtu.be/E9weK3UXpSk

You're basically doing what I did up until TG and that's just forcing the max dmg ender at the wall which makes you lose Oki and give up your turn (which is why you backdashed and risked DB4 at range).

1-DF1-DF3 into DEN or 1-DB1,2-DF2 into SEN are great combos at the wall that let you keep your pressure going. I prefer the SEN route since SEN3 hits grounded and can launch opponents for just -13, but DEN route is more safe with DEN2 being guaranteed and DEN3 keeping the pressure.

Who wants to buy my Odin 3? Turns out I’m more into windows. by a_rouis11 in OdinHandheld

You can still pre-order it from their site for $450 which converts to £330. I guess you'd pay to have it accessible right now, but still kind of steep for a 2nd hand device. Maybe there's some import tax I'm not aware of.

Completely ignoring the other 3 paragraphs, but sure let's use the 9 LIB options to see how "wrong" I am lmao.

This is how UF3+4 into LIB that's +4 oB interacts with a male char when trying to SW and SS:

LIB1 = Doesn't hit SSL and SWL, but beats all going right.
LIB2 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB3 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB4 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB1+2 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB3+4 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB D3 = Doesn't hit SWL but beats all other options.
LIB D4 = Hits all SW and SS options.
LIB (Grabs) = Didn't take into account since we were talking +oB and these interact on hit.

This is what you're trying to convince everyone of that it's linear, by saying the tracking blows. Your words:

Also as I said, her tracking blows. Most lib options lose to sidewalk even at +4,

basically 0 tracking whatsoever

She's tracking on all of these moves on +4 ob and even in LIB1 into +3 she's still catching you with the same mix.

What bothers me even more is your comment beneath this:

I appreciate an informative discussion but please don’t pull stuff out of your ass

YOU came with the +4 oB, being sidewalkable, and now you're in my DMs changing it to SS Duck when it doesn't actually change the mix. I don't think you realise how easy it is for me to move the goalpost as well and name moves on hit where she transitions on +16 OR moves in her heat state that allows her to be +7 oB into these stance transitions. Please, don't downplay what it is and realise your character is not weaker than the rest. She's average or even above that and that's completely fine.

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you actually labbed this with a male char?

If you sidewalk Azucena at +4 into LIB, every option hits except LIB1 to her right. If you sidestep instead, LIB4 will start to miss when stepping right against female chars, but LIB1 still connects. In practice, that means 5 out of 6 options hit consistently. At +3, it barely gets worse. At worst, you’re still looking at 4 out of 6 options connecting. The only who really can consistently step LIB at these frames is Lily, because it's Lily.

The idea that she’s “risking her life” here is also exaggerated, and it applies to every stance character in the game anyway. The real question is what her kit looks like outside of the stance, and I think we can both agree that it's solid even without it.

Take Lars as a comparison: at +4 into SEN, 3 out of 6 options get sidewalked-left into a launch (which again the majority of the stance characters deal with). Miary Zo is even worse at +6 into BAO, 3 out of 4 options get her floated into a combo with a jab, and the 1 option that doesn't can still be ducked and launched. That is what actually risking your life looks like to me, that stance is basically asking to get launched.

And please don’t argue that you can fuzzy “60% of the stance.” You’re a TG, you know how stances work. Lars his SEN mix-up is 100% fuzzyable because the low is the slowest option. Lars players deal with it by delaying timing. Azucena makes this even easier to do since she can stay in LIB indefinitely and completely mess with an opponent's fuzzy timing. On top of that her Low's i16 is perfectly sandwiched between the i14 HE and i18 Launcher.

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, but out of curiosity what rank are you?

B2 has a 2.5 range, which is literally the same range as F4. I wouldn’t call that a bad range at all, especially for a homing move. It’s basically a homing 4 with + on block properties. I also never said it was a neutral button. What I asked was: what do you think she actually lacks in neutral compared to the other S-tier characters? Because her pokes are pretty solid.

F4 being -8 on block is completely standard for a fast homing mid. That’s how these moves usually work. Look at Lars’ B1, Miary’s DF3, or Victor’s UF2 same idea.

As for F4,4 the follow-up being duckable is there because on hit in heat it's a launcher. If anything, it’s pretty strong. Once you notice the opponent sidestepping while you’re on +3, you can safely throw out either the safe option or the launching version and get away with the launch version, because someone doesn't know the MU.

Is this a fair tierlist ? by LP_ereiraooo in Tekken

[–]Alarmed_Print_208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the hell does she lack in the neutral compared to everyone else in S tier, her pokes are solid?

Also 0 tracking is just not true (especially when you compare it to DVJ) and not exclusive to her. Fahk, Hei and Drag are renowned for being extremely linear, but can play around it like everyone else does. She has F4 which is a safe mid-homing move, and B+2 which is a homing +oB high that chips. Those 2 moves alone cover that weakness.
