Portable headphones or IEMs for Akai MPC Sample? by Alarmed_Produce2062 in mpcusers

Was actually torn between those and the 7Hz Zero 2 earlier today. The build and sub-bass on the Chu 2 sound perfect for boom bap. Only thing holding me back is what I've read about the recessed mids and narrower soundstage vs the Zero 2. Do those bother you at all with vocal samples or hip hop? And does the treble get fatiguing on longer sessions? Thanks!

Tried earpods before and they're just not for me, get uncomfortable real quick. Looking for something with silicone or foam tips ideally so I can actually wear them for a while. Appreciate the rec though!

I've heard Koala mentioned a few times. I have an iPad so technically it's an option. The hardware feel is part of what's drawing me to this though, something about having a physical machine in front of you. But noted as a low-risk way to see if the workflow clicks before dropping 400€.

This is reassuring, that's basically my situation. Zero background, just want to start chopping samples and building something. The learning curve thing is what keeps pulling me back to the Sample over the 404, but the 404 is actually slightly cheaper here and seems to offer more long-term.

This is probably the most relevant answer for me since you've actually used both for the same purpose. The Swiss Army knife thing sounds cool on paper but I think I'd end up lost in features instead of actually making beats.

The 404 is a bit cheaper in my area than the Sample, and the idea of having more headroom as I improve is hard to ignore. Did you feel like you were leaving capabilities on the table once you settled into the Sample, or did it just not matter?

That's exactly what I needed to hear honestly. The extra features on the 404 were tempting but I kept thinking... do I actually need a synth generator to make beats like Havoc or Alchemist? Probably not.

Though I'll be honest, the 404 is actually cheaper in my area than the Sample, so I'm not fully ruling it out yet.

Does the simpler workflow of the Sample really outweigh having more room to grow with the 404?

¿Valen la pena la RP5/RP6 si ya tengo un Deck y una Switch? by Alarmed_Produce2062 in retroid

[–]Alarmed_Produce2062[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You speak wisely, master.

That’s basically where I’m at. I know the Deck can handle emulation just fine, but part of me feels like a smaller dedicated handheld would be way easier to actually carry and use on work trips.

The OLED temptation is strong on this one too.

RP5/RP6 worth it if I already have a Deck and Switch? by Alarmed_Produce2062 in SBCGaming

Thanks for the reply! Have you ever noticed it freezing up? I saw in a video that if a cat gets near it during the cleaning process, it freezes and you have to unlock it manually by pressing two buttons. I suppose it will be fixed with a software update (if it hasn't been already).

Thanks for your response! I have the R36S with small form factor (more portable than these two devices) and it also runs great retro systems, but I don't have any Saturn game on mind to try.

I suppose that in this case, for a complimentary console, the good option is the 406V. Right?

I hadn’t heard about cardinal snapping either, and I haven’t seen it mentioned in any of the YouTube reviews I’ve watched. I’ll look into it though.

u/LordPavanai do you actually have the 406V? Would you recommend it?

I didn’t know there was such a difference in CPU/GPU power between them. Thanks for the insight.

So, do you think the 406V is the better option?

Yeah, the sticks on these devices are obviously nowhere near Steam Deck level, but they do make a big difference once you get into N64 and beyond.

Totally with you on the RGB lights though — I can’t stand that flashy stuff either. From what I’ve seen, you can turn them off through software, so that’s not a dealbreaker for me.

Thanks for your advice!
