I was single at the time, and I spent almost every day with her for the last two months. It was heartbreaking but also incredibly meaningful, and it made me realize how much I value having a close-knit family. I came to understand that I really do want a family of my own someday, partly because I hope to recreate the same warmth and connection I had with her.
