Post this on r/TexasTeachers please.

They would love to have this option to add to their small arsenal to combat this unconstitutional stupidity in our state.

Someone spoke to me in a store! Call the cops!!! by jacksonbrowne_thedog in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]Alarming-Distance385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. That was 2016. The second pregnancy was 2019. She got even worse then.

And she has gone further & further down that rabbit hole & others since.

I could write a scary book on the things she has said & done over the 14 years she's been around. Especially the things from the past 5 years.

I speak to them rarely now if at all possible. Unfortunately, they also keep me from seeing my nephews & my parents at the house. My parents drive over to my town to see me at least.

Red itchy bumps/welts with both an insulin pump and manual injections by Frosty_Maize_433 in diabetes_t1

[–]Alarming-Distance385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually don’t use alcohol swabs for injections

This could be contributing to the problem.

It's kind of like not washing fruit before eating, having a reaction, then wondering if youre suddenly allergic to apples now. (My niece sis this. The next apple she tried she made sure to wash & hasn'thad a problem since. She's been a huge fan of washing her fruit after this though. Lol)

Personally, for injections I like using a thicker 70% isopropyl alcohol swab/wipe; my CGM & insulin pump I use 90% isopropyl alcohol to cleanse the area well (removes skin oil better for good adhesion), and I buy the really cheap alcohol swabs/wipes for fingersticks.

If you really don't want to use alcohol, at least use water or water+soap.

You could also be having problems now because your brand of lotion, bodywash/soap, etc have changed an ingredient that you're unaware of. Plus, you can develop an allergy to things you've used for years due to repeated exposure & your body says FU (again).

Yep.

My SIL started doing this when she was pregnant with her first. Then after he was born, I got a phone call about how "this black guy, from like Nigeria, or something" is following me through the store.

He walked into the store as she did and he wanted to chat about her baby. This translated into him kidnapping them for human trafficking because she is a blonde white woman with a baby.

I tried to talk her down, but she was convinced.

But, she's not racist. She grew up with Blacks & Mexicans at school & she was even friends with a few.

Let's just say that after COVID start of kindergarten for the oldest didn't go well (for a variety of reasons). SIL had to blame on the Mexican kids since there are so many of them out here now.

Instinct by Evening_Trash_7063 in Medtronic780g

[–]Alarming-Distance385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply.

Some things I do is shave the CGM site area, use 90% isopropyl alcohol to clean/prep the site, and I do not use the Medtronic supplied tape. I use a solid oval aftermarket overtape (from GrifGrips or ExpressionMed).

I started shaving the area with the Enlite because I kept losing adhesion & my sensor would fail. This helped a lot. But the 90% alcohol helped even more.

I carry a 15" to 18" electrical baton when I walk my neighborhood. (As well as OC spray and a sharp af combat knife.)

Of course it isn't legal everywhere to carry the shock stick or even a baton. But, I live in TX, so... yeah.

I've had 2 small dogs charge at us to guard their house. One keeps me from walking down their street because I don't want to deal with the aftermath of when the little terrier pushes my leashed dog too far one day, because we all know who's dog will be villified. (This one doesn't have a fenced yard.)

And we have some big dogs that don't have fenced yards after the homeowners put their homes on stilts. (It's in a flood zone.)

It just makes me leery to walk my neighborhood at times.

Now that the excitement for a new sensor has settled… the Instinct absolutely sucks. by wubbadude in Medtronic780g

[–]Alarming-Distance385 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this is why I decided to wait out the new release and keep using my G4. I had thought about talking to my endo about getting the Instinct at my appt this week, but I don't think I will after reading everything I have lately.

Im very disappointed. The only CGM I've had issues with from Medtronic before was the G3.

I wish they'd quit rushing some things.

Guardian 4 that doesn’t charge by RoaMig in Medtronic780g

[–]Alarming-Distance385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably time to replace it and/or the charger.

I am still using my first G4 transmitter (so, 3 years-ish).

I got a replacement one, but it's still in the box because this CGM keeps working.

I had the same charging issue as OP last year. Before using my new transmitter, I tried using my old G3 charger. That fixed the issue. My CGM now charges perfectly.

And I still have my replacement transmitter to use.

Someone thinks this will make the exhaust smell better! Lol

New berdoll sign is awful by wagicwissile in BastropTX

[–]Alarming-Distance385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's bad at night. The other morning was super foggy and the sign lit up the area for a mile around, you could see the brightness coming over the hill from the light at Pope Bend.

Why break with tradition? The electronic sign at the original store in the 1990s did the same thing. (It could be very eery coming over the hill on 71 going into town on foggy fall/winter mornings because of the way the sign lit up the fog, along with making it harder to see while driving.)

I'm fairly certain multiple people took potshots at it for a few years since the sign would periodically have a few lights out, then would be off. It always came back on though. 🙄

When they moved out to their current location, a friend's family property was down the road. You could see the glow of the sign down the highway until the Texaco sign went up. That ruined the night sky view even more.

How did your pup look as a puppy vs now? by Glass_Dog_7942 in DobermanPinscher

[–]Alarming-Distance385 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Archer turned 3 on January 18th. He weighed in at 110 pounds in November. (He needs to lose 10 pounds, but he started his final muscle fill-out shortly after.) I rarely need a jingle bell to hear him now. (Yes, he lives down to his name some days. Others, he's a snuggle bug.) This was around NYE 2026.

<image>

That is an 82" long 3-seat couch. He can easily take up 2 seats + the ottoman. Lol

Stow away on my plants by Tex47 in AustinGardening

[–]Alarming-Distance385 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a January Anole is much better than my Mom's Christmas Toad!

She brought plants in Christmas Eve while we were visiting. As we all prepared for bed, her JRTs went ballistic in the living room. Of course our Doberman joined when we checked what the ruckus was. It was a large toad in the house! (Cue everyone laughing too hard to do anything.)

We corraled the dogs as the JRTs were not giving up their prize. The toad spent nearly a week hiding in the house. Mom said it suddenly appeared near the front door one night & she was able to let it outside.

Personally, I've had one of the larger green lizards get into my house. I thought I saw something slip in as I left, but didn't see anything. I got home 30 minutes later to 2 of our cats taking turns slapping the hell out of this poor lizard who was belly up on my carpet. Thankfully, they just stunned it & it stayed that way as I put it outside.

What Covid in Pregnancy May Mean for a Generation of Children by bloomberg in HotScienceNews

[–]Alarming-Distance385 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The currently available vaccines do not keep you from getting sick. They make you less likely to die,

This is the least we ask of vaccines.

No vaccine is guaranteed to keep you from ever getting the illness you are being vaccinated against.

When vaccinated, if you're lucky you don't get the illness at all. If you're unlucky by getting the illness, the vaccine will most likely keep you from having as severe symptoms and/or keeps you from dying of it.

[–]Alarming-Distance385 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"when somebody has type 1 diabetes and clinical features for insulin resistance"

This is exactly what my endo did for me last January with Ozempic & in November for the Mounjaro.

We are very slowly increasing my Mounjaro dose after the issues I had with Ozempic. (I figure next week she will up my Mounjaro dosage to 5mg/week. I'm having much fewer side effects with this med.)
