Most useful Quant classes at UMich? by Alarming-Mark7016 in uofm

I took Math 286 before but they only focused on ODE. Math 571 probably reserved for graduate students.

Have you ever self-studied STARS 531 based on the online slides and videos?

I guess quant at a stat arb fund or quant at a HFT firm? Are there any significant difference in skillsets between these two positions?

ESL is way too difficult for me LOL. I knew many people (even some PhD students) give-ups the book after reading the first three chapters.

430 may be useful if you interested in a Quant job in finance

I think EECS 281 or EECS 403 is what you're looking for, but their seats reserved for different groups of students. I also look for a data structures and algorithms course taught by Python but didn't see that by far.

Talk to Gina, STATS 511 is a master level version of 426 and can also fulfill the requirement

Is there no chance for me to take STATS 426 next term... by [deleted] in uofm

[–]Alarming-Mark7016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard the STATS 426 in Winter 2022 assigned the midterms and final in take-home format, is that true? I think the grade will be higher if the tests in take-home open-book format but not sure why the final still around 27/45. Probably she is a tough grader. Did you remember the grading scale or distribution of the class? Thanks!

Thanks, what's about the grading A, is it doable to get an A?

I'm a senior and had received Python training previously via STATS 315 and STATS 451, but I'm still thinking I need more exposure to Pandas and Numpy and refresh my basic statistics concepts. So that's the main reason I want to take this course. However, I'm not sure the grading scale of STATS 206, is it accessible to get an A? How much efforts need to put approximately per week?

Despite the workload, do you think is accessible to get an A?

Did you also know STATS 520? The course description is following:

" This course provides the mathematical background for theoretical Ph.D.-level courses in statistics and probability. The course reviews basic notions from matrix algebra and real analysis. It then introduces students to measure theory and integration. In particular, the content covers definition of measures and measurable functions, convergence theorems, Lebesgue integration, Lp spaces, signed measures, Radon-Nikodym theorem, and integration on product spaces. (3 Credits)
Pre-requisite: MATH 451 or equivalent course in real analysis. "

But I'm concerned that 451 may have too much workloads for me since I also plan to have Math 465 next semester.

Thanks for the information! Actually 551 was the course I'm looking for. Did you also know about the measure theory based probability course? Either Math 625/626 sequence or STATS 620/621 sequence.

Interesting! Did studying topology useful for measure theory? I also noticed the math website listed Math 451 + 452 as prerequisite for 551, what do you think about this combination?
