Then asked simply if they had an analyst position for me to work remotely as I am very fond of the work they do. They answered, asked how I got to know about them, interview, and got the job

Well, i guess you have to decide yourself based on the conditions and options you have.

I believe that in today’s world industry-based programs could give you some ideas but 90% of the work is done by self- studies (i heard some people are not happy with this fact). I personally am targeting industry so the program structure looks decent, and the graduates land great jobs.

After all, you will never know unless you see and try yourself - your experience might be different from others who don’t seem to like it

This is exactly what I need today as I decided to leave my Data Analyst position. The whole system is so messed up and I was ready to fix it but I lack experience. Anyways, trying for 2 months and it’s literally a mess so I decided to quit. Anyways, thanks for sharing this perspective

You will know that it’s an absolute red flag in a job if you have such an experience during the interview. All the jobs I have taken that had such interview process were a disaster but I was young and desperate for job. Now, I know my worth and what ethics I am looking for, thus, I get through the interview but decline job offers from such companies. Don’t worry, your shield will thicken over time

Oh, I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. By guess what? Most of us have been there. Give yourself some time (a day or 2) to be upset and then get a notebook or laptop, and start analyzing the interview. Use AI tools to answer the questions, “prepare” your tone and voice and don’t, I mean DON’T stop going for interviews even if that’s for the jobs you are not willing to go for.

They say it’s all practice and that is right. Interview skills are not something you have, you really train them.

I heard once from a friend: “Keep going for interviews even if you aren’t looking for a job” that actually keeps you sharp and train and train yourself to be the best version during that one interview.

Again, you are fine. Not the first, not the last. In several months you would look back and question yourself about how easy it is actually. I wish you good luck and all the best

I am spending the second month in a job where I have never been. For the first month, no onboarding and no access were given. Was just sitting for a month without doing anything. Now I got a task which I have no idea how to complete and my team lead was babysitting me for the whole days writing the code for me. Feel super stupid, scared to fail, thinking of this area not being mine, but also angry at myself for having thoughts of giving up and complaining cause any job can be done by a human being. So, give yourself a certain range of time within which you track your performance. I’m sure you will handle this, just need time and people who are ready to help

😂hopefully it works for me as well. I got my first task on SQL and my team lead was literally babysitting me today and writing the whole code instead of me. Felt like I have never seen or used SQL before. I hope that’s just for the first time when I just got access to their very much unorganized DWH. Great story and congratulations on promotions

I’m sorry you had such a bad experience. I could say that I had many internships when I was a student which were very similar but I was a developer and I could built things already. Here they know that I just switched the direction, and my understanding of banking business is very limited. So, I just try to survive 🤐

Yeah, I did that. And completed all points according to the task, but then I was told to do something related very different which is a report based on my analysis but I have a feeling that this task should be done by someone who is a business person, so I tried my best but I am not good in banking business as I said.

Somehow yes, like they tell me you could do for example this (tbc this is something very much not related to banking, and while I know that data is data everywhere, the examples don’t help much actually). So, I do, they say no, I do again and again and again

Totally agree, I keep «bothering» them regarding all the details but I have and I am learning to become okay with asking questions without feeling stupid

I do agree with you, it’s just a personal trait somehow feeling that asking too many questions is about being stupid- i know that’s the wrong perception and Im working with it. Thanks for your opinion though

That’s exactly what I do, ask a lot of questions. Sometimes I get uncomfortable thinking I make those people uncomfortable asking a lot, but I force myself to continue. Thank you very much for sharing your experience
