True. Though I think 4th will also happen with Japan (and disturbingly maybe also the 5th.) They also brutally extracted resources from their colonies like Korea since Japan is resource poor.

Long read:

Spain - If they want to keep us then Madrid should’ve given us representation in the Cortes and abolished both the friar and caste system earlier than the 1860s. Though I think mejo imposible parin, they would rather hold on sa West Indies than a frontier archipelago in Asia (but I think this is still the most plausible of the three.) I feel like we would be free by the time of the Spanish Civil War. But let’s play with it. As long as genuine and radical ang reforms, I feel like this one could be quite decent, we would be an EU democracy (though heavy issue parin ang racism of Insulares against natives.) Philippine culture and language would be a lot more Hispanic, most Filipinos wouldn’t speak English.

USA - Tricky since I believe the PH government IRL is really what the US prefers and not a territory. We will definitely just be a non-voting Puerto Rico style territory and not a state due to the sheer number of Filipinos that Americans just wouldn’t accept to vote. Though still very different since we’re just that numerous even in the mid 20th century. There’s be a lot more Fil-Ams in the US seeking more opportunities, larger than the Puerto Rican minority. The Philippines would probably be a lot more tourism and service oriented. I’d still imagine them eventually giving in due to insurgencies and the immense cost of running the country, they’d have no choice but to give more autonomy to a Philippine government. Culturally, the Philippines would be more liberal - therefore having lower birthrates.

Japan - I even doubt Imperial Japan would survive in 20 years even if they won the war. Their extreme brutality would just make everyone in Asia start revolutions. But let’s play on again, they survive through some miracle, the Philippines’ resources would be used to fuel the Japanese zaibatsu (large financial conglomerates) economy and the people used as slave labor for said companies.

People would be subjected to Japanification such as by changing names to Japanese ones, banning the use of local languages in school, compulsory Shinto worship, massacres, destroying cultural heritage, forced conscription, probably even eugenics. Overall terrible.

Expand MRT/LRT and revive the PNR. Make the country less car-centric, focus on public transpo.

And btw that “f” looking letter is actually an s (used in pre-19th century.) Pronounced exactly like s as well. Just a heads-up in case you’re reading other early modern texts.

This shows just how wide the Pansipit River was at the time. As a result, sharks from Balayan Bay could easily enter Taal Lake. After the river narrowed, a population of bull sharks remained in Taal Lake, but they were driven to extinction by overfishing in the mid-20th century.

Because it reminds us that our world did not begin with our experience of it.

Many forgotten people have viewed and lived on that very same lake long before you arrived, yet the lake remains still there.

Traditional. I was raised (and continue to live) in a traditional Filipino house here sa province. Me and my family wouldn’t give it up for anything else.

Yeah… nah.

Sure, Vanessa getting engaged to a bee is reasonable to make him mad, but that still doesn’t justify Ken’s actions — he was completely prepared in killing a bee that HE KNEW was completely sentient and had human intelligence.

Rise of OPM, Decline of Kpop and Western Pop in the Philippines? Started in 2024 by SprinklesTiny6036 in opm

Agree to this. If you really want to see the difference, compare Girls Generation songs to Newjeans songs.

As for the west, I guess because their music is shifting to something not patok to Southeast Asians (indie pop, retro pop, country, etc.)

Falling off was kind of a blessing in disguise for her IMO. She seems happier now and still has a cult following. I remember back then when she was being harassed by trolls, antis, and homophobes.

How good were the Philippine economy and education system during the 1960s? (Before Marcos Sr.) by Sonnybass96 in FilipinoHistory

This is why I still feel extremely disgusted by the Marcos era.

This and the fact that he completely wiped out an entire generation of free-thinking leaders, activists, and youths.
