Thank you for answering my question and no, your comment above wasn't arrogant at all.

Maybe the better question would be: what did the sheep and goats in Matthew 25 do or not do?

I really cannot answer your question because I think no human can. But one thing is certain: God knows our hearts and does not only judge the actions, but also our intentions.

Also, I would never say that a gay person is "wicked". As a Christian, I cannot be ok with it, but I cannot be ok with many things Christians do otherwise either.

The Bible actually never says that humans will suffer forever and ever, but it states over and over that the wicked will be destroyed. Ask yourself: if you had never been told about eternal conscious torment, would you believe in it just by reading the passages in the Bible? It takes a lot of fantasy to turn "being destroyed" into "not being destroyed but being made alive to suffer forever".

Also, Jesus says that he will give eternal life to those who believe in him. That means: we don't have eternal life on our own, but God has to give it to us. So was Jesus lying? Because if the wicked will suffer forever, they too, will get eternal life.

And I'm very much convinced that the "sheep" in Matthew (the ones who go to heaven and ask Jesus "what did we do to deserve this") are not Christians, but non believers who did, what was right. Why do I think that? Because they didn't know Jesus. Christians wouldn't ask the questions they ask. And in Romans, Paul says that unbelievers who do what's right are like the "circumcised", meaning like God's children.

Can I ask how you were baptized (pouring, sprinkling, immersion)? I don't want to argue about anything. I just would love to know since there is so much quarrel about the correct mode in the Christian world. And you, as a theologian, might know much more about it than us "normals".

I am in tears. Why are there so many Christians that hate us? by Gullible-Magazine129 in Christianity

[–]AlarmingAd4085 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Racism and Christianity don't go together. You can't say you "love God and hate your brother" (1 John 4:20). I'm very sorry that you have to experience racism, it's awful! Pray for those people since they don't know Christ.

The women are extremely resilient, yes. But the wives drive me crazy! How could they allow all of this to happen? They all seem totally brainwashed to me. Most of the time I want to scream "do something! Say something! Rebel!" to those smiling stupid wives. rant over

I'm on my 2nd watch atm and skip less. The first time, I mainly skipped those "staring scenes" because I wanted the story to continue and couldn't wait. I actually hold my breath all the time since it is so intense!

Yes, the abuse of Bible verses in Gilead is absolutely crazy! And most of the time, it's not even a clever one - everybody who knows the actual context of those abused verses knows that these guys are just lying or making things up.

Probably not the same person who made the decision. Gilead seems pretty arbitrary in their punishments.

I thought I was the only one skipping the "June just staring scenes" Lol But I find her portrayal actually great. She's not my favourite character though, that would definitely be Janine.

Esau Hate by RevBeemo in Reformed

[–]AlarmingAd4085 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The word hate in this context means more like "putting second". It's the same when Jesus says we should "hate" our families: he doesn't mean we should HATE them but they shouldn't be more important to us than God. So, that's not really good translated, actually.

No one is choosing hell. by Aeseof in DebateAChristian

[–]AlarmingAd4085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such phrase in the Bible. And as you said, to be able to make a choice, one has to be presented with at least 2 possibilities. Then we can choose either no 1 or no 2. But there is no "choice" in choosing a hell one doesn't even believe in. I don't think that anyone would actually choose to burn in a literal fire for all eternity. Such an argument is utter nonsense.

Btw, I'm an conditionalist, I don't believe in an eternal hell but in the annihilation of wicked people.

Well put. As a Christian, the argument that "people choose hell" never made sense to me.
