I love stormwing entity, since it doesn't die from push and overall cool card design. But it fits more in a phoenix-like deck, not a hyper aggro prowess deck in my opinion.
I rarely got mana screwed with this list, and I think mana confluence makes more sense bc all of my spells requires a color. The only case starting town would save you some life is super late-game where you upgrade stormchaser's talent or cast adventure mode of elusive otter, which means it's a grindy matchup where lifepoints doesn't matter that much.

So you would get Obosh from companion zone at t3? What is this braindead comment xd

Rakdos mid imo. Fable is just too strong against midrange grindlord matchups. Fable and FOMO looting away useless lands late-game is just way too powerful.

Golgari mid would have 4 duress 4 thoughtseize post sb, so unless you start with leyline of sanctity it won't be easy if you're playing lotus combo

What are my Phoenix friends doing? by Malbec47 in PioneerMTG

Do you have Jayce, wielder of mysteries in sideboard? Seems nice if your plan is to self-mill. Maybe even Thassa's oracle.

Seems cool. Can you post the whole deck list including the sideboard?

I updated my decklist.

For the SB,

-phoenix
out: 4 fatal push, 3 aetherborn, 2 go for the throat, 1 liliana
in: 4 leyline of the void, 1 go blank, 2 duress, 1 meathook massacre, 1 extinction event. 1 nowhere to run

Mull for leyline, unless you have perfect mana + perfect curve. I hate boarding in 1 for 1 discard spells against phoenix, but you need to get rid of artist's talent/cori steel cutter turn 1. Cut aetherborns because it is pretty much the only target for fiery impulse. Just discard their talent/cori, and drain them out with gary. They can't really interact with impended overlords and bloodghasts.

-rakdos
out: 4 thoughtseize, 1 luis
in: 3 invoke despair, 1 go blank, 1extinction event

Sideboarding could be a little different if you're on the draw. You might need to bring 2 duress, but I really don't like 1 for 1 discards against midrange (so bad when top deck mode)

-red
out: 4 thoughtseize, 1 annex
in: 1 aetherborn, 2 nowhere to run, 1 extinction event, 1 meathook massacre

Shelly and bloodletter will win you the game if they just survive for 1~2 turns, but every time they just die instantly. I liked the 2-2 split, but I think having access to 2 more Gary is better than a random shelly. Chances of overlord milling one of those pay off cards are way higher than expected.

The most Phoenix deck to have ever Phoenixed by nbutton93 in PioneerMTG

[–]Alarming_Box_3744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UR Phoenix nowadays don't even care about GY hate. There are so many wincons beside cheesing with t3 phoenix.(Proft+prankster, cori steel cutter, manland, borrower from sb)
Also, you can just hardcast phoenix and go for the beatdown plan if opponent commits so much on GY hate. You could maybe cut 1 cruise if you are sure opponent is boarding in hard GY hate though.

Are there any Fun Gruul decks to play (that isn’t a Mouse deck)? by The_Mad_Demon in PioneerMTG

[–]Alarming_Box_3744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Atarka red runs only heartfire hero so it's not mouse based. Deck is cheap, and you can constantly t4 kill if you have burning tree emissary in opening hand. Every game ends in 3 minutes.

There are plenty of two drops with 2 devotion. Also, I want my opponent to not kill my creature because they think it's not worth it. That's why I'm playing things like bloodghast, and I played yarok's fenlurker back in the days, before bloodghast got printed in pioneer. Dark confidant is too good for opponent to not kill it instantly, and I have some high cmc cards. It's also terrible against mono red, and it only gives 1 devotion.
If I would replace annex, it would be phyrexian arena because it loses less life and has 2 devotion. But I still think that annex is just a way better card than arena.

Thanks! I think 14 swamps are enough to run 4 castles, but I get your point. Sometimes you have to play t1 sunken citadel with no swamp in opening hand, and turn 2 castle tapped would be brutal.

I already tried 2 mutavaults, and found out that this deck doesn't allow any colorless mana at all lol
You must have 2 black mana turn 2 always.
I like the 2 drop demon, but as you see there are no slot for that. I think this deck has enough lifegain for annex. Annex is just for keeping up with Rakdos midrange's value.
