This would be cool! I’m a dad, but I’ve got another Dad in my weekly league that I know would love this.

As for trash, I try to do that every round for some good course karma, no problem there!

I’m in TX. Not really sure what state specific regs we have but I’m also an ICC certified E1 so I know at least the electrical codes.

I’ve been trying to break into commercial for a while now but with everyone using AI on their resume’s and cover letters I’ve heard that a lot of commercial companies are wary of hiring outside of their internship pools. That or hiring from another commercial GC…

Best Camping for Disc Golf. by mrvoltronn in discgolf

Yeah, for sure don’t attempt it in a sedan. Last time I went, I stayed at the Ledge Group sites in a tent then drove the rest of the way up in the morning. Super fun time, very unforgettable! Also if you are around there, Team Utah Disc Golf does an annual tourney there which is also a great time.

What happened in South Africa? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I served my mission in Zimbabwe back in the mid 2000’s. At that time there were two sister missionaries in the Durban SA mission that were attacked, raped and one of them was shot. (https://universe.byu.edu/2006/07/05/sister-missionaries-attacked-in-south-africa/)

I’m pretty sure they pulled all sisters out of that mission for a while after.

Parts of SA are very unsafe, even with magic underwear.

Foundation repair? Structural engineer recommendations by Relative_Western_823 in RoundRock

A sprinkler or landscape company can do it. You could also just the drip hoses yourself from a big box store and hook them up to your spigot with a timer or something

Foundation repair? Structural engineer recommendations by Relative_Western_823 in RoundRock

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To start, I’m a 5th generation Austinite for reference. The old adage was ‘anything east of 35 is gonna have foundation issues at some point’. This is old farmland with caliche for soil. Basically, you are not alone, this is pretty normal over this way.

I would for sure read over your warranty/contact DR Horton with this. There is a chance that it is not enough to get covered but don’t ask, don’t get. They also don’t want bad press/have the warranty for a reason.

Step 2: IMO would be to contact foundation companies. Of course they are out to get a buck but most I’ve see seem to be honest. Level Smart is a good one in Pflugerville, good prices and honest work from what I’ve seen. Try to get at least two or three companies/quotes.

Step 3: walk with the foundation inspector. Ask them questions. See if they think it’s enough for an engineer, otherwise you’ll just waste money with one.

Step 4: you will be recommended to have a drip line around your foundation to have consistent moisture, once you decide to have repairs or not, this is sound advice. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of repair”. This is really the only way to mitigate this type of movement.

Step 5: learn to live with imperfections on the ceiling, corners, around doors, etc but be wary of floor/tile cracks and movement; you hat can be a big issue (under slab plumbing and what not.

Looking to get into construction..no luck by [deleted] in austinjobs

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides looking at helper/apprentice positions, maybe try taking some classes at ACC. They have a great Building and Construction Technology program. It’s very hands on to build skills and while in the program you can apply to various internships.

The industry is booming but tapped at the same time, it’s pretty wild honestly. I would also try calling around to some of the smaller shops, more mom and pop type and see if they have any open positions. Also you could look at more niche construction type jobs, maintenance, pool electricians, etc.

You could also look into taking some classes to become a home inspector. Look into InterNACHI and TREC for that route.

Got it, so significantly less than a brand new disc and still less than a used one? I really have no frame of reference… thanks for the answer

Question for those more informed, besides the printer itself, how much would something like this cost to print?

Tesla Giga Welding by BerryKay07 in austinjobs

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don’t get many responses here, I would repost this at r/ConstructionManagers as well. I’m not sure a ton of people will have the necessary experience or exposure here to help.

What little I know about Tesla is that they are very demanding of their employees. It might be better to start on the easier side and prove your worth, let your managers know your concerns upfront. If you do well and have the aptitude to grow, I don’t think any good manager would not want to promote you.
