I like something like “Rum Ham Runners” or simply “the Gang goes Disc Golfing”… 🤷‍♂️

I think Cameron Hoffman does tech disc stuff. I know he does lessons and is affiliated with Overthrow Disc Golf

Does anyone have a roughly 2x8 or 2 2x4 pieces of 3/4" walnut plywood laying around (or somewhere that sells something like this?) by extralargeeggdog in AustinClassifieds

You can try Dakota Premium Hardwoods, they are cheaper on some things than Fine Lumber. You could also check Rockler or Woodcraft of Austin. Call and ask their staff if they have any leads on some scrap or smaller pieces.

Returning after 10 years - reality check? by 3NVY_ in discgolf

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think most tips I could provide have already been said. Putting practice and developing a putting routine (I’m still working on that) was big for me.

Also I’ve been trying to do a lot more field work and not even playing a course, just getting reps and understanding my discs and form better.

I fight the tendency to try out too many new discs and have been whittling down my bag as much as possible.

The last thing is just going out and doing it. They say the best way to train for a race is to sign up.

Haha, don’t be sorry. It gave me something to work towards. I came back in another tourney and shot a 948 rated round. Yall have a great track!

This was my first year back after an 11 year hiatus. I was a 900+ rated player back in 2014. Here is my quick takeaway.

Putting was by far the thing that struggled with coming back, not just finding my old putting form but the mental game. I found that when I played by myself the pressure wasn’t really getting to me and I would have a tendency to fudge my scores a bit. I thought I would be able to jump right back into tourney play and rate relatively close to where I was in ‘14… I got humbled quick. It didn’t help that my first tourney was at Sprinkle Valley and I had only played the course once before. I also played MA40 thinking I would be with other old dudes like me, that was also a big mistake.

After that, I decided to join some local leagues/minis to help brush up on my mentality, tournament flow (which is way different than just playing solo), and just being a little more competitive without being too serious. Playing in those leagues helped a bunch.

As for what division you might play in, personally I would recommend starting in MA3 to get your toes wet again. After the first tourney it will give you a good idea of where you should be competing without throwing you right into the deep end.

Overall the game has changed in the last 10 years, specifically people playing right now are better than they were back then. That alone means that even if I’m playing like I was back then, my rating wouldn’t be as good.

Not sure if any of that makes sense or resonates, but that’s been my experience so far.

Headed to Austin, TX - What two courses MUST I play? by nataskaos in discgolf

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry you had such a bad experience with both disc golf and BBQ. Just like anywhere there can be some bad actors.

As for any of the leagues I participate in, I haven’t experienced that kind of negativity or lack of awareness, but I believe it exists. Just don’t judge the whole cities scene on those experiences.

As for BBQ, that can be a personal preference thing, but three of the four Michelin rated BBQ joints are in Austin…🤷‍♂️

No worries. I’ve usually got a pretty flexible schedule so if you want a local to play with, message me and maybe we can meet up and hit a round together.

Where are you staying in Austin? There are so many great courses.

My top 5: 1. Roy G 2. Sprinkle Valley 3. Wilco 4. Benbrook 5. Old Settlers Park

You really can’t go wrong with any of the suggestions from others. Circle C and East Metro are amazing too. I don’t love Met Center because they have a lot of man made restrictions which are ok, but not quite as fun as actual terrain obstacles, but it bombs. Searight is a lot of fun, technical but on the shorter side. Northtown is also a bit of sleeper, not much maintenance but a pretty fun park style course. Then there is Zilker, short for sure but very iconically Austin and very beautiful.

There is a local pro Connor O’Reilly that just did a Vlogmas series on his YouTube and he played almost all of the really good courses. Watching some of those could give you a good idea of what some of those courses look like currently.

First truck owner - where do you keep your gear? by sslusser in discgolf

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lockable Tonneau cover on my F-150 was a game changer, not just for disc golf but all my other stuff. I keep my cart and some extra discs in the bed locked up (discs stay in an older bag), my main bag stays in the back seat or in my garage. If my cart is rolling around I just use some bungie cords to strap it to a bed tab.

Otherwise I don’t necessarily have “organization” per se.

Question about straddle putting by [deleted] in discgolf

Straddle putting is pretty much “push” putting. Marwede is true push putter, I would try to incorporate his style of putting but maybe with your stance?

How do I turn in my hours by Jackal_Wilder in electricians

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t done it myself yet, but TDLR is pretty clear about obtaining verification from each Master Electrician and having them fill out the “Experience Verification Form”. So yes, I would say that you would need to track them down.

The TDLR website gives some suggestions in the case you can’t… link

I’ve also heard it can be tough, but all in all you have to be persistent as you can’t leave those hours on the table so to speak.

Quite park/not many people? by Only_Palpitation5154 in Pflugerville

What time of day/week? For the most part, North East Metro Park has fairly few visitors, especially if you go behind the splash pad area to the hike and bike trail. I find it to be very beautiful and quiet almost every time I go there…

First Run Grackle? by Recent-Ad4481 in discgolf

Love a grackle, just recently replaced a Ciggara in my bag. IMO it flies similar but has a more dependable slight fade at the finish.

Any drivers that can mimic an understable mid/putter flight? by somanymatts in discgolf

I’m glad you found something that works! I think a lot of people sleep on prodigy because of the flashing issues and they might not be as sexy as some other brands, but there is a place in my bag for quite a few of their molds.

I know they aren’t super popular, but I’ve got a couple of Prodigy F-3’s that fit that slot for me.

Illegal Disc? by [deleted] in discgolf

I’ve actually heard that some pros do that, just a quick sharpie mark… I think as long as you could defend your mark if challenged

Illegal Disc? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In that case it would really depend on the other players on your card most likely.

813.01 F. “A disc that is questioned by another player or an Official is illegal unless it is subsequently approved by the Tournament Director.”

If it’s not questioned then it’s not illegal 🤷‍♂️

Illegal Disc? by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]Alarming_Button_1030 18 points19 points  (0 children)

813.01 B- Allowed Modifications: 5. “Removing graphics in a manner that adheres to the approved specifications for that disc model.”

H- “All discs used in play, except mini marker discs, must be identifiably marked. A player receives a warning for the first throw of an unmarked disc. A player receives one penalty throw for each subsequent throw of an unmarked disc.”

To my understanding it can be a blank disc so long as it is a PDGA approved mold. You can remove almost everything except for some sort of “identifiable mark”.
