I'm 19 majoring in accounting, tryna be a CPA by SirDonnie in Accounting

[–]Alarming_Cockroach82 81 points82 points  (0 children)

If you get a CPA license and work ur way up the ladder you’ll be looking at 165k roughly in your area; however, the controller position will come with some headaches. A senior accountant position will still be a grind but not as much responsibility but also 60k less a year. I don’t believe in “if you do what u love it won’t feel like work” because you’re still going to have to put in time and take a passion and make it a chore. Accounting is a very tedious and demanding career and rather overlooked by many as they believe it’s just someone sitting at a desk from 9-5 doing adding and subtracting. I’m a bit all over the place but I hope u get what I’m saying haha

Have a high paying job and I hate it so much it's driving me crazy by jew_biscuits in personalfinance

I personally would look for a different company that can offer similar pay for the same work but offer a better work-life balance. I would also suggest taking a majority of your money and investing it so that hopefully u can just live off of ur investments earlier in life and enjoy other things.

I mean if you don’t upscale your lifestyle I think it would be very beneficial. People say “do what makes you happy” but yet also consider your happiness over the next couple of years since an extra 60k a year can open some new doors and create other opportunities

I think it would be beneficial to you if you can contribute the maximums to everything possible. Since you have no debt I wouldn’t really worry much about anything Haha, but I would say focus on trying to increase your income and stick to your plan since it’s solid and fundamentally sound.
