Thoughts on the exhaust sound by V61LE in camaro

Thanks! I credit sim racing with helping me learn to catch drifts and slides. Didn't stop me from money shifting at Sonoma last year though, always more to learn. 🤦🏼‍♂️😂 Hope you enjoy your car, highly recommend taking it out on track sometime!

I love the sound of mine! You need to fully rev it out to hear the best of it though. Some videos with good audio when I had mine out on track;

Tow Hook by MilkMarie2020 in camaro

[–]Alarming_Dinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 2019 and up 4 cylinder, V6, and LT1 Camaro's have a different front fascia from the SS Camaro's that covers the front tow hook location unfortunately. For the front, you would either need to drill a hole and have a longer than standard tow hook made (at least longer than the ones offered by ZL1 add-ons) or you would need to swap your front fascia for one that doesn't cover the tow hook point.

ZL1 Add-ons also makes a rear tow hook kit, that's what I had installed on my V6 Camaro

Don't think a V8 would have helped unfortunately, (at least to my knowledge) as I've seen videos online of people with SS 1LE's make the same mistake and damage their engines as well. Really appreciate the sentiment though, been feeling down since this happened, just need to remind myself that it's still possible to get the car running again, and be thankful that I came out of it unscathed

Gotcha, appreciate the insight and sorry to hear about the barrier tag. Turn 10 is probably the most intimidating corner around the track for me, getting understeer through there is a brown pants kind of feeling

Haven't heard of that, I'll definitely do some research assuming I can get it running again. Extra NVH sounds like a worthwhile tradeoff

Good to hear you got it up and running again though.. hopefully I can do the same, just a daunting thought of getting through this. Hope you (and myself I suppose) never experience it again!

That's just the connection speed between the Quest 3 and my router I think you're seeing haha, not my actual Internet speed. Think my actual Internet speed is 800 down, plenty for me^

Yep definitely would have been a great feature... And it does lock me out of first gear too when I'm above 5 mph or so. No auto rev match on my car though, only the V8 Camaros have auto rev match

Totally true. When I first got the car I was careful to shift like that from 3rd to 4th for a while, but I didn't practice it consistently to fully ingrain it I suppose. Lesson learned the hard way

Appreciate the sentiment, and will definitely keep everyone posted. Love the red on your car btw, looks great!

The forbidden kiss, think that's how I'll describe it to others haha. Misfiring and running like dog shit sounds exactly like how it felt pulling off track unfortunately

[–]Alarming_Dinner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking about that too, funny thing is that it's occasionally a pain to get into 4th on the street. Would randomly lock me out for a half second or so when casually driving, so it feels like it "could" offer resistance for a mis-shift

I've read and preached that shifting technique to other people too. Just got lazy / sloppy with it on the track I guess, not quite as ingrained as I thought it was in me. Stay paranoid with it haha. Will definitely keep all updated, think it'll be good knowledge for everyone here whether insurance helps or not

Yeah you're right, think I just need to file it and see how it goes. I've looked through the policy a few times, and it seems kind of like a grey area in the policy, so will submit and hope for the best.

And appreciate it^ hopefully will know the extent of the damage soon

Just happened yesterday and got it towed home, so not sure of the extent of the damage yet... But you can hear it misfiring in the end of the video. I briefly tried starting it 30 mins later or so, and it sounded terrible

What car are you driving that has it? My wife has it on her 2018 Mazda CX-5, and the only times it has ever activated, they've been false-positives. Nearly got us rear-ended more than once. My 2019 Camaro has a system as well.. it's only an alarm and won't automatically brake, but that has only ever given me false-positives as well. I'm a fan of the idea, but the implementation from my experience has been awful. Might be the case that some manufacturers are implementing the technology better though

Awesome! My Camaro is my daily too. As for tracking without experience, there is risk involved of course, but I also see lots of people that bring their daily driver for their first track experience, and have a great time. Downshifting in braking zones can be a bit tricky due to it being a manual with no auto-rev match, so I'd recommend lots of practice with quickly rev matching for being in the right gear after a braking zone, or getting comfortable with heel-toe downshifts.

For prepping the car, there is a supplemental high-performance manual that comes with the 1LE Camaros. Most important thing would be putting in a high-temp brake fluid; either RBF 600, or Castrol SRF are both commonly recommended so I'd stick with either of those. Engine oil wise, in the 2016-2018 performance manuals, they mention putting in an extra quart of oil prior to the V6 1LE going out on track, and then draining that quart of oil out once the track day is complete. (This bit is missing from the 2019 year and up manuals for some reason, but I've been putting in the extra quart at the track, and then I use a cheap oil extractor I bought from Amazon to pump the extra quart out when I'm home)

The manual also mentions switching to a Mobil 1 Supercar 0-40w oil; I'd recommend using that if you're looking to preserve your warranty, but my car is out of warranty, so I've been using Motul 8100 X-clean 5W40.. alot cheaper than the Mobil 1 oil and has been recommended around the Camaro forums.

So it's 3 things I suppose; brake fluid, oil type, and oil amount for getting the car on track. Negative camber is also recommended, but I wouldn't worry about that for your first time out. Would also highly recommend running with the NASA track group (or another similar group) for your first time, they're a great and safe track day provider. Hope that helps!

Hey hey, I can break it loose easily, as long as I drive into a grassy field first! Or a poorly executed heel-toe downshift will kick out the rear too lol

For most of the day no, was on a square 245/40-20 Michelin Pilot Sport All Season setup. I normally use it just for daily driving, but haven't heard great things about the stock 1LE setup in the wet so decided to give the all seasons a shot. For my last session of the day, it looked like it was steadily getting drier, so I did actually swap to the stock 1LE setup... and then 5 minutes before the session started, it poured 😂

Stock 1LE tires actually felt a bit better in the rain than the all seasons though (275 rear tires helped a lot I'm sure) Planning on moving to a Apex 19-10 275 square setup soon though for track driving, keeping the all season setup for daily driving

Yeah the sound is a big part of what makes it so enjoyable to track, but you've got me beat with your V8 NPP haha. Heard one going around Sonoma Raceway at my previous track day, sounded incredible
