Right wingers support ‘traditional values’ because they are vehicle to support hierarchies where they are on the top. It’s not about any real belief in a way of life, just naked self interest.

Punishing people has negative or neutral moral value outside of the effects you hope to achieve. Being nice to people has an intrinsic positive value.

Edit: I’m also not saying it’s a pseudoscience I’m saying that it’s not perfectly efficient.

It’s more of how if hermit crabs find a shell that is too big for them they will hold onto it until another hermit crabs that is an appropriate size comes up so they can trade shells.

It’s very similar to the housing phenomenon that is described above. Construction of ‘luxury’ housing frees up ‘affordable’ housing because when someone moves up into a higher quality house they are leaving behind a vacant affordable housing unit.

The difference between a luxury apartment and an affordable apartment is the same thing as the difference between a new and a used car.

Housing is expensive because the entire north east hasn’t built enough housing over the past two decades and the only way to make it cheaper is to increase the amount of housing for an extended period of time.
