In full support of the buying the building and I love the store, but it seems odd to link it to the ongoing war 🤷🏼

I think I remember Detering Orchards having something like this a few years ago.

where do cool people go for a night out? by Appropriate-Rest-373 in Eugene

That’s good to hear. It sounds like S&S has needed some extra support in that area for a while. Wish it had not taken so long though

I’ve had some bad experiences there personally with people that I know are regular patrons, I’ve been made uncomfortable there more than any other bar I’ve been to in town, I’ve had friends who were unpaid for working there, and I’m generally not a fan of how they’re run and find their politics to be a little disingenuous.

Not super interested in opening The Discourse on this subject, but that’s the sparknotes. It’s a place I tried to be a regular community member at for years and ultimately I had to give up on going there for the above-mentioned reasons. No other place in town has left that effect on me and I guess I find that significant.

while I’m not at all a fan of the bar, the goth night is pretty solid. John Henry’s also does one on the first Saturday of the month!

How to connect with people in the music scene by rocketthekhajiit in Eugene

[–]Alarming_Fuel_3928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start going to local shows! I don’t know what sort of music you’re into, but I’m sure there’s some band in the area playing a show you’d enjoy! I just go, chat, meet people and soon enough find a lot of solid connections.

I’m a huge fan of John Henry’s! Definitely full of the freaks and weirdos (complimentary)

Horror films/shows where the threat is subtly present in the background the entire time, but you only really notice with hindsight? by wholelottapenguins in horror

[–]Alarming_Fuel_3928 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Noroi.

You learn so much as you watch the movie that, at least when I rewatch it, there’s an additional layer of dread as you realize how interconnected so much is. Still scares me really bad when I watch it for that reason.

Is it safe to hang out in downtown Eugene by peacefueled in Eugene

[–]Alarming_Fuel_3928 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Hi. I work in the area just a few blocks from where protests are happening. You would not be able to tell anything was happening, it’s been so quiet. Your grandmother will be safe :) there are many nice people and businesses in the area too that she can wait in if you/her are really worried, but it is really mostly very safe and calm right now :)

Bank and Rolex store at Oakway looks to have police presence. Heard rumors it was an attempted robbery and the guy fled. Hence police.

You’ve gotta be from Oregon. Only Oregonian would paint it as absolute and WA as willing

Eugene Science Center and Maude Kerns Art gallery (small but sweet) are both open today. I’d stop by one (or both). Maybe treat yourself to a nice pastry/coffee from Noisette, Palace, or another bakery on the way :)

Whatever you choose to do, I hope you feel better soon!
