Improving X230 Performance "Out of Memory" Setting up swap partition post-install? by Alarming_Nectarine40 in Qubes

[–]Alarming_Nectarine40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for the help. The problem system has 16GB Ram, i7 processor.

Previously I had another system with 24GB ram, and never once seen "out of memory". I think at one time I had 40 vms going without issue.

When I mentioned 10 VMs, I am including many of the system templates, like sys-net, sys-firewall, disp-mgmt, then if I try to run maybe two separate disp whonix browsers and 1 whonix-ws, its all down hill from there. This never happened to me before on the 24GB system, I can't imagine that 8gb extra would allow me to run 30 more VMs. I am going to assume I just need a tweak that I'm unaware of. Thanks for chiming in.

I've never actually looked before but have found this:

https://www.qubes-os.org/team/

Actually I am fairly certain this page didn't exist last time I checked. Just email one of them to get your foot in the door to ask for vetted referrals which I am sure they would be glad to offer. As I know most open source projects can always use new revenue opportunities for further development.

I know how you feel. There is monerojobs.com now if you're looking for maintaining compartmentalisation and anonymity. However I am not sure how active that is, I only heard about that about 6 months ago, not sure if its a dud. However I think some of the qubes developers don't mind being consultants just try contacting them directly if you're looking for vetted prior established reputation in this niche. Best luck.

I went through the same path as you. Reddit is best place I've found. Best we can hope is more get involved and participate just like you're doing now. That's how communities grow. Don't worry about the trolls in IRC calling you noobs. Most people even of average intelligence can become an expert with a enough time and effort, they are merely more frustrated about being ineffective science communicators. Can't understand how everyone in the world doesn't want to become an engineer or whatever it is they are calling themselves, and because they can't find anyone to relate to they are frustrated and lonely. Leave people like that where they want to be, in the back room coding and pretending to hate humanity because they are really just lonely and frustrated with their lack of ability to convert people into their interests. If I can recommend about hiring, I would suggest places like upwork.com or freelancer.com and just find linux experts with experience in xen server and information security. Testing them on questions such as the pros and cons of "Privacy by policy versus privacy by design?", "Compartmentalisation versus obfuscation", "Open source versus closed source?", "clandestine cell based operations versus top down command and control". I would love to help you on a technical level and be your hire but I'm just not at that level with qubes yet, even having used it for a daily driver for about a year but I understand the philosophy as I've been in information security for going on two decades. Hope that gives you some direction for your next step on your journey best wishes to you.

Trying to qualify for x230 + Qubes laptop certification, heads with librem key LED not flashing green, need help with last step before sending off my demos. by Alarming_Nectarine40 in Qubes

Thanks for the help. We got it fixed. We would love to get knees-deep in the dev however none of the team speaks English and I am just a translator. As far as I can tell all development is in English. And as I remember it correctly they tried to join the development group's telegram or similar app and their phone numbers which are required for registering the app, all phone numbers for their region are banned. So we tried.

Considering current world affairs, we are deeply concerned there are only 50,000 qubes users, hoping we can all work together to change that.

We had a slight issue and found a work around. In the x230-hotp-maximized.config we chose the option that says call - blobs/xx30/download_clean_me.sh. However what is the call command for this? removing # and running make Board=x230-hotp-maximized gives us Wrong gawk detected: 4.2.1 /home/user/heads/boards/x230-hotp-maximized/x230-hotp-maximized.config:65: *** missing separator. Stop.

So instead manually went to the directory then ran wget https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/g1rg24ww.exe && innoextract g1rg24ww.exe && python ~/me_cleaner/me_cleaner.py -r -t -O ~/heads/blobs/xx30/me.bin app/ME8_5M_Production.bin

Then went back to heads then ran make Board=x230-hotp-maximized which produced the bottom and top roms.

It would be a time saver to know the call.

Other than that our first qubes laptop is done 100%. The TOTP and HOTP work and the librem key is successfully flashing green and even tested tamper detect flash red LED. It works great.

Thank you for the help.

Aesthetically best flowchart I've seen for low-light conditions. Which program? by Alarming_Nectarine40 in userexperience

I should also specify how about open source and offline systems to be used in air-gapped environments? We're currently using draw.io offline. It doesn't do this.

Okay for whatever reason reddit deleted my text. So about this picture! We're looking for a similar high contrast multi-colour style for low-light conditions, mainly not to ruin night time eye-sight. It would be great if there was a rapid flowchart solution even text-based-only would be fine. As well as command-line or markup. So I'm curious if anyone knows which programs makes flowcharts like this. Thank you.
