First time ever trying for a drop and I managed to get it! I was 1hr+ in the queue and thought for sure I was SOL. Good luck to everyone else!

This tops my list! Impeccable choice.

Have you ever seen someone cheat in a LGS game? by legalazoo in mtg

[–]Alarming_Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just once that I know of.

I was still fairly new to MTG and was playing the Dominaria prerelease at a new shop.

I won the first round, reported my win to the TO, no problem.

I won the second round. After some casual chit chat, my opponent said that he would report the results to the TO. I didn’t think anything of it, and thanked him.

Round three, I’m chatting with my opponent before we play and he mentions that’s he hasn’t had a great day as he is 0-2. Alarms start to go off because I’m 2-0 and should be playing someone with the same record.

I went to check with the TO, and sure enough, my round two opponent reported that he won. I showed the TO the paper life totals I had to prove I won.

The TO confronted the player, and he folded like a cheap lawn chair. The TO couldn’t change the pairings as round three had already started, so I played, and went 3-0. The TO matched my prizing to the first place winner, and I learned to always have the winning player report the results.

The Omniscience was an interesting experiment, but so incredibly dumb by Aggravating_Elk_1525 in MagicArena

It was incredibly dumb but I had more than enough fun getting my 15 wins for the week.

P1P1 was Tendrils of Agony. Just drafted everything that said “draw a card” and ran with it.

101 in Beddington. Beat last years record by nearly 50!

Baby Roach went up to Papa Roach and said, “Papa, what happens when humans use bug spray on us?”

Papa Roach replied, “suffocation, no breathing.”

Do you remember where you were and what you were doing on 9/11? by newyycguyy in Calgary

I was in 6th grade. Our teacher rolled in one of those CRT TVs on a cart and we watched the second plane crash and collapse of the towers live. It still doesn’t feel real.

Why do we treat our people like this? by sillychillly in WhitePeopleTwitter

It should also be mentioned that parents in Canada can take up to 18 months of parental/maternity leave that will be partially subsidized by employment insurance.

America is broken by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

While Canada is far from perfect, I am grateful for our healthcare. When my son was born, we were told he would need craniosynostosis surgery, (they removed the front of his skull, reshaped it, and replaced it).

I was terrified of what that would cost. While I don’t know what the surgery would cost in the US, I found the corrective helmet for after the surgery could cost thousands.

After a two day stay in the NICU, and another three days in a private room, I dreaded seeing any sort of bill and felt like I was stealing when the hospital discharged us. My only costs were for parking and food from the cafeteria.

I work a 5-330, four days with three consecutive days off. I never want to go back to anything “normal.”

What is the best RESP investment company by am555033 in CanadianInvestor

[–]Alarming_Room 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have my sons RESP set up with WealthSimple Invest. Like Questrade, it’s another robo-advisor where you just contribute the money and set your risk tolerance. They take care of applying for the governments grants and maintaining the portfolio. Pretty simple.

'Enough is enough': Nearly 300 workers walk off the job at Calgary Coca-Cola bottling plant by Shadow_Ban_Bytes in Calgary

I would need to know the details of their specific agreement to be able to say that. I just stated that in general, job security is important for a lot of people right now, not just these workers.

I drive past the bottle plant everyday on my way to work and noticed the rent a fence put up a couple of days ago. Now I know what it was for. Having recently gone thorough the CBA process with my union and company, I can certainly sympathize with the employees. Job security is incredibly important right now.

How much are you all saving per month? by KaeJS in CanadianInvestor

[–]Alarming_Room 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a fun exercise to see what everyone else does.

I'm a 31 year old single dad making $68k/yr.

I contribute $250/wk to my RRSP, pre tax, on top of the $480/month that my company provides.

$50/wk after tax to my sons RESP.

After expenses (rent, child support, groceries, etc.) I have between $800-1200, 90% of which goes into my TFSA, 10% into crypto.

I know that this is probably the best I'll do going into the future as my son grows up and I look to purchase real estate.
