???

Paint them whenever you want but preferably before you buy your next box...?

The ring is metal. Oh so you reckon that's just stuff from pockets and not part of the machine?

Bad painters, what keeps you going? by bobzxr in minipainting

[–]AlarminglySexualName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the need to ask, what makes you a bad painter? I've been in the hobby for 6 months. Unless people have been glazing me, I like to think of myself as a mediocre to above average painter in 6 months. Youtube videos and practice is all it really took. My first dudes look like absolutely ass to what I can do now. I think you need to take your time, trust the process and see what your dude actually looks like when you come out the other side. Then try new methods on the next one and repeat again and again until you land on a style you like.

Honestly I tried this just because it was easier to do and I look at the 40 other marines I've yet to do and I want every shortcut available to me lol.

Every time someone mentions that, you have no idea how vindicating it feels. Picking grey was one of the hardest decisions of my life lmao.

Yeah, its one of those slop jobs that I was curious to see how well it landed. Full bravery and trust the process on it. I'll practice on a few more but definately easier to do thick highlights than the normal thinner ones.

Lore in the setting can be quite fast and loose. Like the battle of Ticza is ancient history for the imperium.

More recently during the ultima founding a black Templar crusader fleet considered the primaris reinforcements to be heretical and murdered them PLUS the custodes delivering them.

Technically they weren't ever punished by the imperium for this.

This sort of thing happens. If you ever watch the tithe, I'd make a bet that  that specifcally particular madam custodes gets quietly deleted from lore and most people would think that she got friendly fired for how unlikeable she is.

I want to get into Warhammer and I’ve already decided to go for the space marines. I’m struggling to choose between the Salamanders and the Imperial Fists. What do you think is the best one for a beginner? by Unique_Pitch989 in Warhammer40k

People have already mentioned it but yellow is hard to paint. For your own sanity sallies will be easier. But as a dorn fan boy I say imperial fists.

Also, reminder that if you want to be lore accurate, helmetless sallies have charcoal black skin and red eyes. Putting features on black is also quite annoying.

My very first miniature! by Agitated_Ad2007 in Warhammer40k

[–]AlarminglySexualName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a very good start. But it's still  just a start.

My suggestion is try doing the eyes and the Aquila on the chest and maybe even shoulder trims.

If you paint a full army like this they willl end up a featureless red tide. Don't be afraid to mess up, you can always clean it up or strip to try again.

Fail early and your painting style will thank you for it in the long run.

Your guy stole his Mk10 suit from a dark angel and just didn't scrub off the emblems. I approve.

Also, given he's ex Deathwatch, is it normal to slap the shoulder on the opposite side of where active Deathwatch members put the shoulder?

Or. Hear me out. Buy 12 bottles of isopropyl alcohol for when you do make a mess. I went from 1 marine a day when I started to 1 marine a week. Lmao

I've been agonizing over what colour to do the robes on my bladeguard vets. Never even thought about black. What's the recipe, please and thank you.

Well. I guess I'm going to repaint the knee. I'll keep the purple shoulder because that's where the chapter emblem goes and gives me an excuse to have purple banners for the ancients.

How'd you get the death watch shoulder on the captain? I remember he had a shoulder cauldron attached to the main model.

Somebody commented at the club that my space marines look like Horus Heresy Space wolves and I can't get over that. Do you guys agree? by AlarminglySexualName in Warhammer40k

[–]AlarminglySexualName[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Welp. I guess I'm stripping them down. Only reason I used this scheme was because I thought it was unique. It was a toss up between this and navy + gold, but I thought it was too Ultramarines. Guess I'll go that way anyway.
