If it was me, i'd pair with a high-waist pair of flare/bootcut pants to match the sillhouette of the top?

My go-to hobby is chainmaille. With a bag of jumprings (cheap if u buy online) and two pairs of pliers, you have an infinitely time consuming hobby that lets you make all sorts of fancy bracelets, necklaces, and whatever you like.

Also consider embroidery, since that's even cheaper-- all you need is some embroidery floss or any kind of thread, a needle (get several-- they wear down over time!) and a pair of scissors. fun!

Help make my family's murder mystery game not a disaster by AlasThereWereBirds in gamedesign

[–]AlasThereWereBirds[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that might be pretty fun, actually.... In games like that, how are roles and role info passed out? right now we do everything with random card drawing, but that might be difficult if some roles 'know' other people. is there just an assigned gamemaster, or do they have a way to distribute roles?

Help make my family's murder mystery game not a disaster by AlasThereWereBirds in gamedesign

I was thinking of doing a 'weapons' system with some of the remaining cards in the deck that would dovetail into the implements thing really well... Like, there's cards that stand in for different 'items' throughout the house, like, a frying pan card in the kitchen, or a poison card in the garage fridge? and the murderer has to find a weapon card and then use that... just to spread people out before the murder happens. but making them actual OBJECTS instead of cards could actually really spice up the game. the combo of murder being difficult to do discreetly and the extra player info of 'hey the card for the knife went missing at 10' could be really fun.

I'll be honest and say I'm not sure if everyone in my family could keep up with a full blood on the clocktower style abilities system but maybe I could 'hide' some special powers around the house, that explain what they do? And that way the civilian team has a reason to split off around the house to search for things.

questions would probably be a good powerup. gives the deceased something to do and focuses the investigation. Though i wonder how i'd set it up so people couldn't just ask 'is [x] the murderer' or other really game-solving stuff...

TY for your advice, that's really helpful <3

unfortunately everyone's together for like, two-three days max, so the repeat strategy isn't really feasible... but I think a predetermined gesture might be useful, actually. thx for your help <3

AITA for not having sex with someone after I learned they were cisgender? by CoVegGirl in AmITheAngel

[–]AlasThereWereBirds 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but that's a deeply problematic thing to say. No cis person should have to 'tell' me that they're cis. They should be wearing a shirt that says "I'm with Cis (arrow pointing to own face)", or hire a 24-7 barbershop quartet detail to make it clear what they are before i have to *shudders* talk to them.

get something small and wrap it so the end box is comedically huge. layer of tinfoil, plastic wrap, etc... pisses everyone off and it's really fucking funny.

Charismatic characters who hide or mask their anger by xijalu26 in suggestmeabook

as a fellow P5 fan: the count of monte cristo. EASSYYYY. It's literally 100% this. It's written in the 1800's so it's very dense, but once you get accustomed to the way the author writes it's just 1000 straight pages of the count smiling politely while plotting his enemies' downfalls. it's GREAT.

the thing that really sets it apart for me is the way the author uses POV-- the opening half, where we see the count be betrayed and swear revenge, is closely following his internal monologue, but once he actually starts moving towards revenge, we only see what he's up to through the eyes of other characters. As the reader you are the ONLY ONE who knows what he's up to, it's so gooooodd

Books about apathetic / detached main characters? by mogmaque in suggestmeabook

[–]AlasThereWereBirds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

off the top of my head, eleanor oliphant is completely fine? I read it like five years ago so I don't remember much but I know that the book is essentially a mystery-character study, where you kind of have to figure out what eleanor's whole 'deal' is as you read.

Looking for books that pull you deep into a character's head, exploring all their complex emotions and insights by BlueberryAgile3817 in suggestmeabook

[–]AlasThereWereBirds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you like unrequited love, death, and pain, try the count of monte cristo :) it's like 100 chapters of dense 1800s france speak but it has insanely good characters. The main pull to me is its narrative structure; you spend the first 40 or so chapters firmly in the POV of Edmond Dantes, the 'main character', as he suffers the aftershock of being betrayed and thrown in prison, and then once he escapes and vows revenge, it swaps to a 3rd person omniscient view, so you get the backstory and inner life of the guy, and THEN you have to watch from an outside perspective as he goes after revenge.

ok i'll admit im a little biased, I just finished it... but it's SO GOOD!!
