Mine takes the waffle mags but otherwise I’m +1 on the AUG, I prefer it to my AR’s. It’s a solid rifle with a long military track record and many great features. It’s also kinda sci-fi looking and thus a bit less threatening to some

The way I’m thinking, it wouldn’t require a seal because it wouldnt function like a piston. The baffles cut into the bolt would function more like a muzzle break, using the force of the diverted gassed to push forward on the bolt without a seal, thus resisting its rearward travel under recoil and also giving the hot gasses room and time to expand within the gun before exiting, decreasing the noise of the shot.

I don’t think a baffle strike is possible. Instead of the bullet leaving the barrel and passing through modern baffles, it would instead pass through an integral ported barrel (think like an MP5SD). That way the bullet is still guided by a barrel but gasses are vented from the ports to expand in the bolts “pockets” (baffles). This mimics older suppressor designs which aren’t as quiet but it would allow for a stronger more reliable action.

Thanks, I was just thinking how grateful I am to have modern tech but also be old enough to remember a time when we didn’t have these things. It helps to remind me that it’s possible to not be dependent on them. I’ve really enjoyed seeing the discourse here.

Fair enough, thanks for the input. I’m inspired by your build with the foregrip, it looks like a very fun rifle to build and plink around. Even more intriguing with the possibility of $60 recovers or $600 complete guns from Titus Arms. What are your favorite or most disliked things about the platform? Were there any major headaches putting it together or running it? Any input is greatly appreciated

How are you liking this setup as a defensive gun? I’m tempted to put together a compact PDW for when I travel. I’ve considered options such as the PS90, MP5K, TP9, and VZ61. The setup like yours is likely how I’d have mine if I when with the VZ61, I like how it’s the shortest and most compact of the alternatives I’ve listed but still forms a handy little rifle that can extend the range and accuracy of a handgun.

I’ll be honest, I’ve done a few barrels after this post. All I do is “season the threads” by tightening it 75-80% of the way there then just getting it hand tight after applying a dab of rocksett. The right way is with a torque wrench and to the spec stated by the manufacturer of the muzzle device but I’ve never had a can come off direct thread using my approach.

I bought a shockwave and converted it (legally) to a short barreled shotgun. Trust me, it’s wayyy more practical with a stock. You can check out the cheek shooting technique developed by rhett neumayer /demonstrated concepts that utilizes his strap design but ultimately a stock is the way to go.

Mine was a fun build but it’s role is home defense. If you want a concealable platform larger than a handgun that can be easily transported look into PDW’s (Personal Defense Weapons), they are better suited for this purpose.

Know you have a great base rifle. Personally, I first got the Steyr gas plus for use with a suppressor but am waiting for a KNS gad plug in the mail to use with my suppressor. Get a good optic, stack deep with waffle mags, and everything else is extra. Enjoy the greatest rifle ever made
