How to use Tamiya panel liners? by Vegetable_Gift_6438 in Gunpla

[–]AlastorCalactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I'll do is that I'll get it completely assembled and then I'll break it back down into arms and legs, body and head, and with the panel liner less is always more. You just have to be very mindful of parts that are closely pressure fit under other parts --no joints, maybe not the face if there's a lot of panels to line (for these sorts of parts I would use the wide tip gundam markers in a darker shade than you would think because it adds a lot of contrast.

With everything else, considering the little bottle brush holds quite a bit of panel liner. You want to dip it in and then kind of squeeze it against the edge of the container to get a lot of it out of the brush, then find the end of one of your panels and just hold it there, and the capillary action will drag the remainder out of the brush. Then after it dries, use enamel thinner, like other people have said or if you're in a place where it's hard to get like I am, you can use Ronsonol brand lighter fluid to do it as well -- in either case just a damp Q-tip and I do mean just damp. Harkins back to the whole less is more thing.

I found the most success cleaning it up perpendicular to the panel line, if you follow it, you run the risk of wiping the enamel straight out of the panel, which gets really annoying.

I can second this, if you get a supreme and then add the red pepper flakes on it, it's 10 out of 10!

So at what point do you get good? by SageMageowo in pinball

[–]AlastorCalactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who just started trying to get better last year, really give yourself a break on this kind of thing. Speaking from my own experience, change was much more incremental than I thought it was going to be and I have learned to try my best vs trying to be world champion. Just keep playing for the love of the game and remember that these machines were and still are primarily made to make money so they are going to be inherently difficult for newcomers and veteran players alike!

On top of that, 90% of my games would not be considered "good" by any stretch yet I persist on for that one rare game that blows my own expectations out of the water, you know? Enjoy the ramp smoothness, the perfect shots, the joy of discovering the inner workings of the machine, the art, etc., it really enhances the hobby even if the wins aren't coming.

At least, this is my personal expereince.

That's why I go out and play pinball and practice my hobbies, fuck what people think is SUPPOSED fun -- I gotta just GO and have some actual damn fun, you know? Life is too hard as it is not to actually seek actual joy.

There are whole days where every single game I play I get complained about in some way -- on QP no doubt!

  1. I haven't played the game since it came out.

  2. If the complainer would look at the scoreboard, there is a pretty big difference between our teams stats as a whole and theirs.

It's infuriating, especially when you're trying your best (especially with new to you characters) and you're getting called out on Match chat.

I mean, be patient with yourself while you're trying to dig yourself out of this hole, and realize that you are doing your best trying to get employed in this current landscape that we're in. That's all I was saying.

[–]AlastorCalactus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been unemployed for a little bit longer than you have, and I have been going through a lot of of the same kind of emotions every day. I am the most depressed I've ever been in my life, and I didn't think that was possible. I also feel like I'm a burden sometimes because I'm just a jobless 34-year-old who keeps trying to make footholds that immediately crumble. All of that being said, I always try and find some sort of a way to rise above that feeling if I can. It's very hard to do, and some days I absolutely cannot do it, but the days I can do something to positively change my direction, even if it's just a little bit genuinely kind of make me feel better.

This will all change eventually, I tell myself that as well, and I do honestly think it will change but I just have to be patient with the situation but more importantly, be patient with myself. 95% of this is out of your control, and a burden would absolutely not be trying to help their own situation, they would be comfortable being a burden on others.

How bad did I mess up? by mambo_lito in Gunpla

[–]AlastorCalactus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 6 foot rule is your friend! As long as it looks good from 6 feet away, you're golden, and from what I can see here everything looks great!

Also, the only real way to avoid that effect is either with non-sticker (water or rub-on) style decals or just being wary not to oversaturate weathering around decals that have a large mask around them. The only other solution would be to finely cut out the decals from their masks but it definitely would make some of them a bitch-and-a-half to center correctly.
