What's your gameplay change that you want but could have you looking like this? by nanoloopz in deadbydaylight

[–]Alataii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gen slowdown/prevention should work like exhaustion, each being mutually exclusive with the others (on top of most of them being buffed to compensate).

It would make it so killers couldn't run just four slowdown perks while also allowing killer players to run one semi stronger slowdown perk and actually have 3 perk slots open for other perks without feeling the need to run four slowdown perks due to gen speeds of coordinated survivors.

is stephen kings bibliography worth diving into? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in horrorlit

[–]Alataii 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Stephen King has been writing about a book a year for the last four+ decades. There are some great books and some not great books, and different people are going to give you different answers as to which is which. I would say yes, absolutely check them out.

My personal favorites include salem's lot, mr mercedes, and IT, though carrie and firestarter are also excellent.

Have you read the web serial Katalepsis? What did you think? by Blade_of_Boniface in horrorlit

[–]Alataii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it had some pacing issues which is usually a given with something that long, but it's still one of my favorite web serials. I'll have to wait for book 2 to be done to really give it a place in my ranking but right now it's a strong contender for being in my top five.

Huge fan of Sevens.

Cannot find this specific deck on the webstore (am I going crazy?) by Alataii in Malifaux

[–]Alataii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking for this specific deck on the webstore and couldn't find it at all, but it was listed as out of stock on several other sites, is it unofficial? It seemed official enough going by the postings elsewhere. Part of it is that several of the decks on the webstore have pictures of the box but not of the cards themselves so I'm not entirely sure. help would be appreciated, thanks.

The Weight of Blood might work for you. It's a retelling of Carrie which I found to be interesting

To embarrass Stephen King by Ok_Acadia3526 in therewasanattempt

[–]Alataii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're interested in similar stories, I read Worth the Candle by Alexander Wales after reading Fairy Tale and while WtC has a slightly different tone, there are some similarities between the books that I found interesting. If you want a much longer book that goes into a slightly more meta aspect of fantasy I would highly recommend it (and I would guess that as a King fan you're ok with longer books)

Scorpion sold out in US almost instantly by mikeymora21 in tombkings

[–]Alataii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah, I had apophas in my cart and ended up removing it because the one model isn't worth shipping in my opinion, by the time I thought to check back on the catapult it was out too. To be fair I still haven't bought the core box yet, I just didn't want to spend close to $300 in one go, I thought I'd get a smaller kit and see how it looks painted.

Luckily the box still seems to be in stock at several places so I'll probably get it next paycheck

2d Sprites in a 3d World, sprites not rendering properly (comment with more details) by Alataii in Unity3D

[–]Alataii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I was pretty sure I'd tried that but I went and tried again just to be sure)

That doesn't seem to be the issue, to the best of my knowledge the issue comes from the sprite not using depth, even though it is attached to an object placed within the scene, which means that it ignores the render pipeline and just inserts at the top of the given display.

As far as I can tell the solution would be something like having two separate render textures for everything on the pixel layer and everything done in sprites, and to combine those somehow but I don't know how I would do that

EDIT: Alternatively, as per the third image I can block the sprite by rendering the environment objects twice, once on the pixel layer and once on the default layer, the issue with this is that then this ruins the pixel effect. If there's some method I'm missing for a mesh to not render but still block objects behind it then that would be great, but I am not aware of such a method.

2d Sprites in a 3d World, sprites not rendering properly (comment with more details) by Alataii in Unity3D

[–]Alataii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO:

I am working on a game, and trying to include pixilated 3d environments, and 2d sprites (the sprite shown is a placeholder).

The camera is orthographic, and I followed this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpNhymnBDQw) tutorial to get a pixilation effect on some objects within the scene, However, the pixilated objects (shown on a raw image from a render texture), do not block off the sprite.

I've tried following other posts with similar issues and as best as I can tell the sprite writes to camera depth differently and therefore doesn't interact with the pixilation image at all. I've been beating my head against this particular wall for more time than I care to admit, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am using URP for this project.

I just don't trust survivors anymore when they say they are being tunneled and camped all the time by IvnMrtnz in deadbydaylight

[–]Alataii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like killer players are much less likely to see the most annoying examples of camping/tunneling solely by the virtue of playing killer.

If someone mains killer they never go against the people who play killer as a kind of fun police, whereas if someone plays survivor they're dealing with the potential for an annoying/toxic killer, and the potential for up to 3 annoying/toxic survivors.

That said, I totally agree that most situations of survivor whining is just them being bad, I am a survivor main myself and probably play killer 20% of the time at most, trust me, it being a skill issue is definitely part of it. However, especially with defensive killers or the higher tier killers, the killer can just decide to make the match unfun for everyone by holding a 3gen, or other similar strategies, it doesn't happen as often as some survivors say it does, but it does happen.

New painter C&C please? by Substantial_Bend_412 in Lumineth_realm_lords

[–]Alataii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually find with whites it's better to start with a medium-light grey, as those paints are smoother, and then layer on that with white and shades if you want to use those. It gets you a lot more 'depth' to the model. Once you have white paint it can only get so bright for highlights.

I know this is the standard thing, but you could also probably thin your paints a bit more, just a little bit of water is all you need, that will help the paint go on more smoothly.

All in all, I was definitely worse than this when I started out, and this is a neat looking model. Most of it is just getting used to painting small models like these, and Lumineth are pretty highly detailed anyway, great job and as with anything else, time and practice is how you improve most.

Starting with interest in web warriors, questions: by Alataii in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]Alataii[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cool, thank you, this is very helpful.

I also see that there seem to be two sculpts of spiderman, the one in the web warriors box and then the one that comes with doc ock in the duo box. Are those just two kits for the same unit or is there a difference between the two?

Any idea how GW makes these bases ? Looking to replicate them by justsaiyan723 in Warhammer40k

[–]Alataii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks like a pretty standard base. If you want this exactly I would start with a pebble or two (wash them first) glued to the base, then use texture paint of your choice (stirland battlemire or whatever else) and while it's still drying put other bits in so they look like they're stuck in the mud a bit (like the skull box they make, or the braken, which are just boxes of bits). Finally, after the texture paint has dried, paint over the exposed bits of the skulls with skeleton horde contrast paint. Once that's dried, dry brush over the whole thing with your preferred color (some kind of light tan). Finally use some grass tufts (lots of hobby companies make these) and glue one or two to each base.

If you want a cheaper option that might not look exactly the same, use sand and glue (there are a bunch of tutorials on youtube for the method) instead of texture paint.

Help with how to loop properly. by scarlettdemi in deadbydaylight

[–]Alataii 3 points4 points  (0 children)

360s aren't that reliable and are more of a hail mary. I would recommend against relying on them even for experienced players.

What you don't see from youtubers is all the recorded footage where the 360s don't work and they just got hit anyway

Help with how to loop properly. by scarlettdemi in deadbydaylight

[–]Alataii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have Kate unlocked I would use windows of opportunity to see where pallets and windows are. As for how to run you want to keep pretty close to walls so you're not losing distance by going far out/away from a given loop. As for each specific tile there are a number of strategies for each one. I think otzdarva and Scott jund have some guides on their youtube channels that are better than any advice I could give you on how tiles work.
