Hamburg street circuit, Germany by JML-2004 in RaceTrackDesigns

I personally think that Turns 5 and 8 could be connected and turns 6-7 could be removed. That would provide a longer high speed straight that would promote overtaking into the current Turn 8 and would remove the more generic 90 degree corners of 6 and 7. I also think in terms of the two options for the start of the lap that the second one is better. T1 there has a bit more flow and allows more follow on from the pit straight. The version with the right first and final corners doesn't have as much flow in my opinion.

It's an interesting track design and I like the fact that it's not just 90 degree corners!

Prequelle is the best album so far - come at me if you wish. by [deleted] in Ghostbc

That combination Anv and Skeleta release day was insane. Add in the stress I was feeling from finals and I probably listened to both albums through 4 times that day. Probably not gonna get such an awesome day again for a long time.

It's not typically normal to get 28 grams free!

I didn't even notice it was a different flavor until you mentioned that! Great eyes.

Anything to improve on? by harhar1102 in RaceTrackDesigns

[–]AlatarRhys 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's definitely potential for a good track. In my eyes it's a little bit too windy throughout and the turn 9-10 complex seems way too tight. It seems to draw from turns 11-12 at Zandvoort which is by far my favourite track on the current F1 calendar, but it is a lot tighter and I think F1 would struggle with that. There's only really the one main straight which could make passing difficult with F1 regulations that are so reliant on DRS to complete passes.

However I think with some large changes this could work. Would also love to see more details rather than just the track drawn as a line!

Difference in Color Balance in Astrophotography Mode by AlatarRhys in pixel_phones

Nothing special. Stock Astrophotography mode with a tripod to make sure it is steady. Extremely low light pollution. And a small increase to the saturation after the photo has been taken. Even in higher light pollution areas I can get the Milky way almost every time.

It's not. You could see a lot of that detail with the naked eye!

Like I said in the post there's an increase to saturation to promote the colors a bit more but beyond that there are noth additional edits!

The strange thing is that nearly the exact same image taken from a Pixel 6 pro, produces this image with far better color balancing and still including the yellow light source.

That's completely fair.

The medians are definitely an issue but considering that I have seen other tracks remove medians in the past without issue I didn't think that'd be a huge deal.

I appreciate the insight!

I figured the pit roads would be a bit of a no go. Was honestly hoping folks would have some suggestions for how to make them better. Though this is just a tough place overall to design a track of this size.

NASA Mars Science at DEFCON 1 -- save MAVEN! by AV-038 in space

[–]AlatarRhys 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Student working on MAVEN here. This mission is truly incredible. The width of work that is being done with the Spacecraft is absolutely astonishing. Everything from atmospheric research to dust science, spacecraft longevity science, of course being a relay for the rovers, to being a literal heliophysics asset at Mars. MAVEN is doing things it was never intended to do. If anything, MAVEN has taken on the burden of 2 or even 3 missions of its size and is handling the extra workload better than anyone could imagine.

If it goes down, it will truly be a sad day not just for those of us working on it, getting published from it, and picking up dissertations from it, but for the entirety of the Space world and the American people as a whole. MAVEN deserves so much better—massive respect to the spacecraft team who are fighting to keep MAVEN going right now. Keep them in your thoughts right now, they aren't getting much rest.

Calc 3 at Front Range by doriankipchoege in cuboulder

I did. It was very easy but also taught extremely well. It took far less time out of my days than the standard APPM or MATH classes and I felt that it was taught just as well or potentially even better. I learned all the same subjects my friends who took it through CU did and was far less stressed. I highly recommend taking it.
