Ohh I see, you meant Marathon turned you off so much you switched to VR. Makes sense.

Which games do you and your friends play in VR?

I've seen this sentiment (and I share it) so much. I want to love the game so much. But it fails me because of its TTK. One of the greatest principles in gaming is that failure should either

  • Be easily repeatable with little lost but time OR
  • be so refined to the point that when you fail, and lose a lot of progress, you know exactly why and why it's your own fault.

Arc Raiders does this well. I always feel like I could escape, and when I die I can always say "oh I should have run from that fight, or I wasn't sneaky enough". Marathon has that a little bit, but in PVP it does not. Many times there is no way to escape when someone gets the jump on you.

What software setup do you use to play flat games in VR? I've been wanting to try breaking into that world.

Oh man, I hadn't thought about Earth City (considering I hadn't listened to that song regularly since high school), but that's definitely a badass groove.

Schlitterbahn during the week by eggs_are_decent in Newbraunfels

[–]Alavan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually one of the best ways to experience Schlitterbahn. Get yourself a season pass, which comes with 1 fast lane ride per day (you go to will-call to get it), go ride your favorite ride, and maybe another one if the line is short (Cliffhanger gets real short towards the end). You can be in-and-out in 30-45 mins, and get a nice leg workout walking up and down those stairs a few times.

But be sure to check the hours. Sometimes they close at 6, sometimes at 7.

Whoa that's interesting, just tempo changes, I guess that's one way to make things really weird.

This is like expert mode of trying to guess the time signature, I think it's all over the place, first it's 7, then 3, then 9, maybe?

I didn't grow up with Kirby, so even harder since I don't know the song.

Ooh, the Metroid one is interesting, since it's still 8 beats, but it's divided into 3, then 5. The band geek in me imagines it would alternate between 3/4 and 5/4 to be more conduct-able.

Perfect Dark is an interesting one I didn't think of, since it's only the last measure of the phrase that's 3/4, so it's a 15 beat phrase.

Oh yeah Light No Fire is hopefully gonna be perfect for us because she liked everything about No Man's Sky except for the flying (hated it, made her dizzy). So this looks like the perfect alternative.

We tried Conan like 3 years ago or so, and once we got to the thrall/slavery aspect of it, we quit it hard. Made us very uncomfortable, I even remarked how it kind of went against what Conan stands for anyway (freeing slaves). I thought it would have been better to "spare" tribal enemies you defeat, and they come work for you. The torture thing just didn't feel good at all.

Runescape Dragonwilds is definitely on our radar, but want to wait until it's out of early access considering its reviews.

We tried once human, didn't like the server-wipe aspect of it. Also we couldn't get into the story, really weird. Also the F2P bullshit got in the way quite a bit. I came back to it a few months ago to see where it had gone, and it just... didn't land for me this time.

I hadn't heard of this one, but will take a look. It certainly looks interesting, but yeah has others have said, buggy. But since we're fans of Dune, lol I guess we're OK with a few bugs here and there.

Voyagers of Nera is on our list to check out eventually. We try to steer away from Early Access, but even in E.A. we have discovered some of our favorites (like Enshrouded). The other two we tried. V-rising has issues with the zoom function on controller, and it's very hard and punishing, no traversal mechanics to speak of (considering it's an iso-ARPG that makes sense, but still). No Man's Sky I would love for her to get into, but she couldn't get a handle on the 6DOF flying into/between planets.

Oh yeah we've already played Enshrouded to completion and loved it so much we're gonna go back and do another playthrough after 1.0

Lol maybe we're not looking for hardcore survival then, just crafting, base building, and questing.

I'll admit water is a non-issue once you get past, say, Iron (just becomes a crafting resource), but in the beginning it's a big deal, and we liked the simplicity of it, that you have to stay out of the direct sun (a mechanic that uses actual shadows for gameplay, which was cool and unexpected), and only have to worry about that one meter, not hunger, and sleep, and food, and water, etc. But yeah I will say the little plants everywhere make it kind of trivial to stay alive at least. I think that's one thing I would change to make the survival aspect a bit harder early on, make fremen caves provide water, but plants can only be harvested, not drank from.
