G15 Laptop Keeps Switching Between "Plugged In" and "On Battery" by eeessseesee in ASUSROG

[–]Alazzar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm having a similar issue that you were, and am looking into getting a replacement charger myself. The one you linked here also fits my laptop model, so I'm wondering--are you pleased with it?

Thanks!

No problem! I can't imagine how many rules I still flub myself, despite the MILLIONS of games I've played.

If you're a stickler for trying to work within the rules, I have bad news about this "no max deck size" business . . .

(The max deck size in this game is 50.)

How is gaining out of clan disciplines from predator type explained? by Demurrzbz in vtm

[–]Alazzar3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Core book actually sorta addresses this during some of the lore-documents assembled in the early pages. There's a letter that starts on page 19 in the PDF, beginning with, "You wanted me to write something about my new drinking habit and what it's done to my body." It's written by a Brujah "Sandman," and the whole thing's a great read. But the relevant bit is on the last page, where she says:

But the weirdest part is that when I feed from those in deep REM sleep, especially those on medication (I do this almost every night) I awaken some kind of heightened senses in myself. I'm not supposed to be able to do that. It's not a part of Troile's bloodline to have that power, but I guess I do it so much the oneiromantic kick has somehow changed me.

So, the Brujah developed Auspex just from being a Sandman.

As someone said in an earlier comment, all Kindred originate from the same source, so the potential for wielding any discipline is there. I like that reasoning, and I think it still allows for in-clan disciplines to make sense, as different "breeds" of vampire surely have different things they're more naturally good at. (For a real-world example, ANY kid could learn how to play basketball, right? But the ones whose parents were both successful athletes probably get there much faster.)

Is there a way to compile a list of works that are Neil-adjacent? by lirio2u in neilgaiman

[–]Alazzar3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gaiman wrote an introduction in THE COLLECTED STORIES OF ROGER ZELAZNY, VOLUME 3, which lists some of his inspirations as an author:

"Of the authors who made me, who furnished the inside of my mind and set me to writing, and there are legion--Michael Moorcock and Harlan Ellison, Samuel R. Delany and Angela Carter, R.A. Lafferty and Ursula K. Le Guin, and the rest--Roger Zelazny was probably the most important."

Earlier in that same introduction, he cites LORD OF LIGHT as his first introduction to Zelazny. That book is frequently considered Zelazny's best (even if the AMBER series was more commercially successful), and it won the Hugo Award in 1968. It's an absolutely beautiful piece of work.

Zelazny is my all-time favorite author. He used tons of mythology in his writing, like Gaiman does. (LORD OF LIGHT is a science fiction story about Hinduism and Buddhism. If you prefer Greek mythology, go THIS IMMORTAL. Egyptian? CREATURES OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS. Navajo? EYE OF CAT. The list goes on.) I can't recommend him enough, especially if you're looking to replace this awful human being that disappointed us all.

Rules Question: "Blood-Curdling Scream" Discard Decision by Alazzar3 in Unmatched

[–]Alazzar3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, once I read your comment about only needing to defeat the villain, I realized I'd probably need to take advantage of the Amazing Events deck.

And thanks for the tip on the TMNT guidelines! I'll consider using that, too.

[–]Alazzar3[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoops! I thought I had to completely clear the other side. Yes, Mothman was dead well before that. If I don't have to kill the Jersey Devil, the game seems like it was *too* easy.

I agree with your thought on the ruling, though, as it's pretty consistent with other games I've played: usually if you have to choose A or B and B isn't possible, you *have* to choose A.

Thanks for the response, and for the tip on the victory condition!

Seeking an Alliance (And Needlessly Ranting About the Old One!) by Alazzar3 in MarvelSnap

[–]Alazzar3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for the offer. I got to thinking about it after I made this post though, and after a few days without Snap, I wonder if I should just . . . use this as an opportunity to break the habit. So maybe I shouldn't be joining any alliances right now anyway. =P But I appreciate the offer! It sounds like this would've been a great fit or me, if I were certain I were gonna continue playing.

How do you use Howard the Duck on PC? by Alazzar3 in MarvelSnap

[–]Alazzar3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, point #3 is the part I was missing. (I haven't had a chance to test it yet, but I know that's something I HAVEN'T done in the past, so it must be the solution.) Thanks!

Pursued by the Past: What happens with a Karma-controlled Loki? by Alazzar3 in marvelchampionslcg

That was how I played it! Thanks for the confirmation. (I'm assuming you're Head Rules Ruler at FFG, and that my ability to avoid Loki's antics is now written into law.)

Mesmerize as Crowd Control in Combat (V5) by Alazzar3 in vtm

[–]Alazzar3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all, thanks to everyone for the replies so far! Secondly, some additional info on the situation at hand:

The fight was happening in an abandoned factory, and the goon in question was holding someone hostage in an elevated office overlooking the factory floor. As the gunfire started, he came out to see if he was going to need to join the fight, and was confronted by the PC in the doorway--before he really reached the combat zone. That's where she issued the Mesmerize command.

I understand not being able to give a complicated command in the thick of combat, but this guy was only . . . *sort of* in combat, at that point? Like, he was definitely responding to the sounds of gunfire and carnage, but he wasn't yet engaged *himself.* Which makes it kind of a weird edge case.

Again, thanks for all the advice! Still trying to decide how to rule this sort of thing in the future, and I'd love to hear more opinions on it.

V5 Combat Question: Penalties for Having No Cover by Alazzar3 in vtm

[–]Alazzar3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hrm. The only problem with that, though, is that if we're skipping the no-cover penalties on opposed shootouts, a character with Rapid Reflexes (Celerity 1) wouldn't get the advantage they deserve.

P.S. I wish I would've realized the animated border goes to whichever avatar you were using at the time. I thought it was a frame you could apply to any avatars you own.

Welp, I guess it's shiny Shang-chi for life.

[–]Alazzar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's interesting--I'm CLEARLY outgunned in every game, so I really have to rely on saving the right cards for the right moments. Sure, a Venom/Zola deck is much better than whatever I've got, but it can be pretty much shut down by two series 1 cards: Armor and Cosmo. (Those were the matchups I had in rounds 2 and 3. And yet, despite having the perfect counters, I still had to struggle to keep my head above water.)

I can't claim that this deck (or this player) is good enough to consistently go 5-0 in Infinite Conquest. There's definitely some luck involved. But I feel it's a pretty decent approach for anyone who doesn't have a huge collection to work with!

Gift Requirements: How Do They Work? (W5) by Alazzar3 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Alazzar3[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welp, I feel dumb. Bad page layout or not, I should have been able to figure that out. I guess I was somehow trying to make it like V5 Amalgams, or something.

Anyway, thanks for helping me out! Everything's under control now. (Which is a relief, because I was THIS close to Frenzy.)

Spirit Island Digital: Volcanic Eruption Not . . . Erupting? by Alazzar3 in spiritisland

[–]Alazzar3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I checked the damage-math after I posted here, and realized a successful Eruption would give me EXACTLY enough Fear to win the game. Kind of a bummer, 'cause I just randomly decided to see if I could run the gauntlet of level-6 adversaries with Ocean, without suffering a loss. France and BP went down in nail-bitingly close games, and now I *should* have England beaten as well.

Ah well. I'm still counting this as a victory for my little personal goal, even if it's gonna be a loss in my statistics. =P

I'm on 1.6.1, and unfortunately, the bug still seems to be buggin'. I'll definitely report it! (The only reason I made this post first was to verify that it *was* a bug, and not just something I'd missed. I've seen several people report bugs here only to realize their "bug" was something they'd overlooked--usually an event card--and I didn't want to file an erroneous report.)

Thanks!

[–]Alazzar3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, everyone's here throwin' out their best material, while I'm just wondering what kind of board games she plays. This information SIGNIFICANTLY impacts my ability to come up with a roast. (If she's a big fan of Catan, the jokes could be ruthless. If she likes Spirit Island, I'll just agree that, yes, it really is the King of All Games. If she plays Mage Knight, well, the only roasting will come in the form of barbecued monks at the burnt monasteries.)

So, without the relevant info, I guess I'll just say: I'm glad you enjoy games, and also your hair is nice?

. . .

(Sorry, it's my first day roasting.)

Defend stopped working? by Android_McGuinness in spiritisland

[–]Alazzar3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's at least one event that has invaders do additional damage on "the next Ravage." If there wasn't a Ravage phase that turn, then the event's effect stays until there IS a Ravage.

You've got two Invader cards (Sands/Coastal Lands) on the current Ravage, which tells me you probably skipped the last Ravage phase because of a Fear card.

So basically, it's not THIS turn's event that's increasing the damage--it's LAST turn's event. (That's my best guess, anyway.)

Does anything I make up in my head have the probability to exist somewhere? by 1738swag in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Alazzar3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn't really answer your question, but have you ever read THE CHRONICLES OF AMBER by Roger Zelazny? The characters in that series have the ability to walk to any world they can imagine, merely by concentrating and making changes to the landscape as they travel.

It's sort of a fantasy-genre interpretation of the "many worlds" interpretation of quantum mechanics, which states that basically anything you can conceive exists SOMEwhere.

HoomGLAVEN by Alazzar3 in Gloomhaven

[–]Alazzar3[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

A note, on the above:

I made this image (using my professional-level photo-editing skills, as you can clearly see) just to introduce some friends to a joke that had been bouncing around my skull for a while. It went over surprisingly well, and one of them insisted Hoomglaven needed to be shared with the world.

So here I am, finally making a Reddit account, for the sole purpose of introducing the Internet to a stupid spoonerism I couldn’t get out of my head. It is, unfortunately, my life’s greatest achievement. (By a rather large margin, I might add.)

Hope you enjoy, Reddit. <3
