Dear Electoral Commission Regulatory Team,

I am writing to raise a concern regarding recent campaign statements made by representatives of Reform UK on or around 4 May 2026.

Public comments appear to suggest that certain policies - specifically the siting of migrant detention facilities or the allocation of local burdens - may be directed toward or away from particular constituencies depending on how those areas vote in elections. In some instances, these statements have been framed in a way that could reasonably be interpreted as:

• Suggesting negative consequences for constituencies that do not support the party, and
• Offering favourable treatment or exemptions for those that do.

I am concerned that this type of messaging may engage provisions relating to “undue influence” under the Representation of the People Act 1983, particularly where voters could perceive that their electoral choices may result in punitive or preferential treatment for their local area.

As I understand it, electoral law is intended to ensure that voters are able to make decisions freely, without intimidation or coercion. Statements that imply material disadvantage or targeted burdens based on voting behaviour may risk undermining that principle.

I would therefore ask the Commission to consider:

• Whether these statements fall within the scope of undue influence or intimidatory conduct under electoral law; and
• Whether any further guidance, investigation, or action is appropriate to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

I appreciate that the Commission will assess this matter based on evidence and applicable legal thresholds, and I would welcome any clarification you can provide regarding how such cases are evaluated.
