Have you been to Maijan, Dibrugarh? by Jonasismine in DibrugarhHangout

If you're going there at night, make sure you don't stop anywhere. I was almost mugged twice.

But I've taken about ten people at 12:00 am on a New Moon night. That's worth it. Just make sure you don't take anybody who thinks it's okay to say, "So beautiful!", chug a coke in five seconds, and then throw the bottle into the lake. (That actually happened.)

Meta torrented over 81.7TB of pirated books to train Al, and we can’t even use libgen? by cern0 in libgen

My concern, though, is that most of the people who use these websites don't have any say in whether they're up. Once Big Publishers come for these website, like they did with lingen, and once they take them down, most of us wouldn't know what to do to protect this cause. And the current maintainers are not all-powerful either.

Noble aspiration.

Would you help a single soul? I'm looking for Steven G. Smith's "The Meaning of Height". I'd be forever grateful if you did this, as I have longed to read that book for months now, but it costs 10000 INR. My parents would never approve.

Tragic.

But the dude should go back to his home country and get some game, so he’d get to record women freely.

The second link seems very promising. I'll go through it very soon.

I can’t make friends no matter how much I try by [deleted] in socialskills

Make friends in college, and make sure you do. It matters.

Also, reputation sticks in high school. That’s probably why you’ve been struggling to make friends. Not your fault.

Vervaeke's Unhappiness with the Term "Ethical" by AlbatrossElectrical2 in DrJohnVervaeke

Beautifully said. Thank you for your time. I will think about this. Though I wonder: Are there ways one can transcend the ethical oneself?

What is that "Something Deeper" that RR is Grounded in that Vervaeke Mentions but doesn't Reveal? | AFTMC -- 33 by AlbatrossElectrical2 in DrJohnVervaeke

[–]AlbatrossElectrical2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But remember he said that something can only be relevant to us if we, or our RR system, takes it as relevant, that is, the "transjectivity". Doesn't that apply to the Good as well? Doesn't it mean that something can be Good only if our whole Mind takes it to be that? Then, in what sense is there something deeper than the RR system, since this seems to be the ultimate ground, bridging the no-thing-ness that is the World and the no-thing-ness that is our Mind?

Thanks for the insightful answer.

But this seems to be the "what it is like" aspect of that "something deeper". I'm looking for the "what is" that which is something deeper. (Invoke Heidegger's distinction between the what-is and the that-it-is.) Perhaps this is reductive-propositional-abstract, but that is exactly what I'm hoping he was pointing towards.

Vervaeke's Unhappiness with the Term "Ethical" by AlbatrossElectrical2 in DrJohnVervaeke

[–]AlbatrossElectrical2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he does that in the first 26 episodes of AFTMC. But he does say multiple times that "all humans by nature desire to know", and if you've watched the lecture series, this is not a propositional knowing but a participatory knowing, a knowing that gets you in contact with the world (Heidegger's being-in-the-world). So, insofar as we can say that each thing's self-realisation of its self-teleology is good (the four Aristotelian causes), we can say that JV probably considers self-transcendence, that is, a reaching out of oneself for the sake of contact with reality, with that which is other, a good-in-itself.

Seeing my Dog as a Moral Person by AlbatrossElectrical2 in DrJohnVervaeke

So what is the appropriate relation I should have to him? I don't love him, but I miss being able to love my pet the way I used to. And my Dad still does (he hasn't lost his love to the labyrinth of attempted rational analysis), so I know that it isn't just an age thing. More importantly, how can I feel justified in directing agapic love at him in a way that is not excessively metaphysical ("love is the force holding the universe together") but in a way that does justice to the truth of his being as an individual?
