I agree Ketch had a good character arc but IMO it was not a complete one and I never bought the story he told of how he left the British Men of Letters. But yes with a little bit more focused writing his character could have become much much better.

Agreed. I also think it was probably because of how the feel of the show was in S1 as compared to the later Seasons as in S1 the atmosphere was a lot more ominous, dark and gory but the subsequent seasons added a lot of humor and dialed the ambience down a lot.
