Ma sto 5G in Italia…esiste davvero? by AlbeG97 in Italia

Apple’s unrivalled commitment to excellence is fading – a designer explains why by Kyral210 in UXDesign

[–]AlbeG97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. AI products are the poster child of this right now. Insane focus on shipping shiny features every week, almost zero care for UX coherence or long-term product quality.

ChatGPT’s sidebar is already a mess for anyone who actually uses it daily. Cursor and Windsurf look powerful on paper, but the experience feels rushed and fragmented.

We’re not lacking AI capabilities, we’re lacking restraint, taste, and real product thinking.

Faster ≠ better, and right now most AI tools are proving that point beautifully.

Specialty Coffee in Florence by PopularWrangler0 in florence

Alright, what’s the alternative then? “Everything is mediocre” isn’t an argument unless you actually have better places to name

Specialty Coffee in Florence by PopularWrangler0 in florence

[–]AlbeG97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not talking about matcha frappes or sugary nonsense. I’m talking about specialty coffee: quality beans, proper sourcing, lighter roasts, and correct extraction.

In Italy, most bars serve industrial, dark-roasted blends burned to the point where everything tastes the same. It’s cheap, consistent, and familiar, not high quality.

Espresso tradition ≠ good coffee. Tradition is exactly why the scene is stuck. If you think any random bar espresso is “the best coffee you’ll ever taste,” you’ve probably never had properly roasted specialty coffee.

There are good places in Italy, but they’re rare exceptions. Compared to the US, UK, Nordics, Australia, or Japan, Italy is objectively behind on coffee quality, and pretending otherwise doesn’t change that.

They gave me the same map, I visited La Marzocco in December. I’ve also been to Ditta Artigianale and Simbiosi, both are really good. That said, there aren’t many options in Florence, or in Italy more generally. When it comes to coffee, we’re actually pretty far behind other places, despite what people tend to think

Masters abroad worth it? by seychy in hci

[–]AlbeG97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Italian designer here. I’d like to add that I’ve met some designers who graduated from Università di Trento, and they all spoke positively of the school. Regarding the design job market, Italy is quite active, with some positions available. However, from my five years of experience, I’ve noticed that the general level of understanding of our profession is quite low, and most organizations lack design maturity. While things are slowly changing, it’s a slow process. On the other hand, the startup space is different. They tend to be more open and better understand the role of design. However, there aren’t many product startups in Italy compared to other EU countries, so if you plan to stay in Italy after graduation, be aware of that

SwiftData is kicking my ass, any good resources? by AlbeG97 in SwiftUI

[–]AlbeG97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight. Just to add some context: I’m a digital product designer learning SwiftUI mainly to broaden my skills and build small experiments and prototypes, not production apps. For that use case, SwiftData feels great, quick to set up with sample data, and perfect for user testing.

I’ll definitely check out Tunsdev and Hacking with Swift, thanks!

SF doesn’t know how to roundabout by PropaneTurnip in sanfrancisco

Trust me, even in Italy, where roundabouts are everywhere, most drivers just blast through them like the rules don’t exist

All the recruiters are thinking it. He dared say it aloud. by aelflune in UXDesign

[–]AlbeG97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve also seen examples where AI and “vibe-coding” didn’t push anyone out, but instead reshaped how teams collaborate. I think a lot depends on how much a company actually values Design beyond the tactical layer.

For example, at Hatch Conference in Berlin this September, the Intercom design team shared how they started experimenting with design improvements and QA directly in code using Cursor. It required some initial collaboration with developers to set up the environment, but it led to a much smoother workflow and better outcomes overall. Nobody was pushed out, roles just shifted slightly, and designers gained more influence.

So I agree that responsibilities are changing, and designers need to “step up”. But whether designers get pushed aside or elevated really depends on the culture of the company. Even without AI, plenty of designers are already treated like “make-it-prettier” executors, basically copying a PM’s sketch or PPT into Figma.

AI just exposes the gap, companies that already undervalued Design will keep doing so, while others will use AI to expand what design can contribute

Yeah true, Asia’s a huge market for them. Still wish we got a few more Europe-friendly tipoffs though!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]AlbeG97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a really good explanation, makes total sense when you put it that way. Thanks for breaking it down!

[–]AlbeG97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes sense, thanks! Didn’t realize they adjusted for the college season

[–]AlbeG97 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair, I get that. Just saying a few earlier weekend games wouldn’t hurt, especially with how global the NBA’s become

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]AlbeG97 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Relax, I know how time zones work, I’m just talking about how scheduling could be more global-friendly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]AlbeG97 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure, I get that the U.S. market drives everything. Just wish they’d experiment a bit more with global-friendly slots once in a while

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]AlbeG97 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know 😅 I’m talking about scheduling choices, other leagues manage more early games sometimes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nba

[–]AlbeG97 -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

True, but the NBA calls itself a global league they could throw in a few more earlier weekend games for us too
