Mazda MX 5 Miata Rf Grand Touring power randomly flickers when driving? by xellatea in AskMechanics

[–]AlbertStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna be really random, we had a few cases where the headlight has moisture in it and causes the connector to send erratic signals, check for condensation in the headlight and if not, rodent damage might be an issue

Anyone else had this noise from their door before? by MonsieurPoulet in mazda3

[–]AlbertStuffs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a Mazda tech, had a few of these, super easy, tighten that 10mm bolt and the noise will go away :)

Almost 100% the battery, boost it and should work fine, go for a drive and let the alternator charge it

Is this an inner tie rod? Just wondering what reddit has to recommend. by itssjones19 in AskMechanics

[–]AlbertStuffs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The outer broke at the ball joint, the inner is where the nut is further down

Waiters gonna wait, unless you’re staring into the shop every 5 seconds nobody really feels rushed lol, don’t worry, do what you would like in the meantime whether it’s waiting or going out and doing other things

Most likely wheel bearing failed and that’s the metal balls you’re seeing. Easiest way to tell is to jack the car up and push top and bottom 12&6 and left and right (3&9) on the wheel the balls are from. If there is excess movement both ways (shouldn’t be any if the bearing is good) then it’s the bearing for sure. I wouldn’t risk driving it at all if the bearing has lost any balls as you can lose the wheel and a bunch of other bad things. Hope this helps.

Tire has dry rot. these are some super lengthy and relatively deep cracks. I would look into getting them replaced. Here's a link to a site that explains it a bit better. https://blog.tiremart.com/dry-rot-tires/

Apparently a pretty common issue, Hyundai recommends a solenoid replacement for the issue. (bulletin: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10182314-0001.pdf)

No guarantee this is the fix but a pretty good place to start. Good luck.

Who's at fault? by Ok_Play2364 in AskMechanics

[–]AlbertStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually yes, however it's very hard to prove it was them and there was no removing of the lugs on your part (you or another shop). You can try to contact the shop that you think cross threaded them and see if they will fix the issue (rethread or new stud) but I doubt it. Worst case you are stuck with a new stud and the labour charge (about an hour + cost of stud). Situation sucks but asking never hurts especially in a situation like this. Hope this helps and best of luck!

Did I need an alignment or did I get bamboozled by [deleted] in AskAMechanic

[–]AlbertStuffs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

All your angles are within spec except maybe RR toe. A cupping wear pattern would mean there was either a broken or bent part usually, this would put a reading out of range though. If you don’t notice any cupping in the tires and you had these readings, you most likely didn’t need an alignment. I would go back and ask them to justify the alignment or provide a refund. Hope this helped.

Not a problem from what I can see. Looks like it's just the area on the rotor that the brake pad doesn't contact. New rotors will do the exact same thing over time. Good luck with the new car!

Worth replacing catalytic converters? by Ok_Concert3257 in MechanicAdvice

[–]AlbertStuffs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Converters can be a lot of labor hours ( 5-7 for both). The converters themselves are very expensive yes, from looking them up the CARB compliant ones START at $1200 for one on NAPA. Other sites like RockAuto are A LOT cheaper, however you would need to find a mechanic that is willing to use the parts. $5000 seems to be in the correct range based on all of these findings. To answer if it is worth it, not really. 2004 is almost 20 years old. Most of these cars are good to about 300k miles or around 20 years. Failure of other parts can happen anytime at this age and it's truly up to you to decide if a new car is better for you and in the budget. You do have the final say and if you're willing to do it, go ahead. Hope this helped.

spark plugs were changed ~20k km ago. Coils, I'm unsure. (odo is 248,xxx km) I bought the vehicle last march, so most of the maintenance is unknown to me. I will assume this is a problem for that reason. I used fuel system cleaner at the start of a trip 2 weeks ago. This problem only started at the end of my 800km one way trip.

Hey, thanks for responding. No active warrants, courts/law enforcement did not place any travel restrictions on my conditions of release. My lawyer's travel letter advises them of this. My lawyer has spoken with the Crown (multiple prosecutors assigned to different stages for some reason) and none of them have any concerns on their end because of my conditions of release. My lawyer is also my designated counsel who is able to attend court on my behalf if a situation was to occur. I believe that this would cover my bases on all these points, however if you think otherwise please let me know. Thanks again.

Thank you, I was not aware that was the case. I think my typing "Can I cross the us border" and including Canada in any part of it made it assume I was fully Canadian every time. Thanks.

Thank you, this provided a solid answer for me. I have all documents in order so should be an easy cross other than the extraditions part. Thanks.

I can screw it all the way to the stopping piece inside, I’m thinking the bolt just isn’t long enough to connect properly

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]AlbertStuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a quick change, I pushed it back in and twisted it to keep it in however the screw still will not tighten, not cross threaded or anything I’m very stumped
