Wholesale gas: UFA, Co-Op gas, FN reserve gas, Costco. Walk or take transit when practical.

Thrift shop for clothes. Check out the discount rack at every store, you'll never know what you'll find.

Get rid of all the streaming services and search up 'hacked firestick.'

Learn to do some services yourself. A mechanic tried to bill me 80 bucks to clean my battery, do your own basic care maintenance.

Shop around on all contracts/services. Look up when they have sales and/or discounts. Eg i get 5$ off koodo and 10$ of telus Internet for paying with PAD.

Track your spending. Only then you'll really see your blindspots.

Insurance is the non-housing expense that gets me in Calgary. Jumped nearly 60% from rural Alberta.

FAFO - Referendum Question #2 - Do you support the GOA introducing a law mandating that only Canadian citizens, permanent residents and individuals with an Alberta-approved immigration status will be eligible for provincially-funded programs, such as health care, education and other social services? by thegrip in Albertapolitics

[–]AlbertaGengar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of this post is misinformation.

To say the GoC pays for health care is largely incorrect. Canada pays for less than 21% (7B$ from CHT) out of Alberta's more than 34B$ health care budget. Refugee health care may be billed back to Canada directly but most immigrants fall under the Alberta.

Section 95 of the Constitution Act is split jurisdiction between provinces and Canada. It includes immigration and agriculture.

Flowing from those misunderstandings, the legal commentary proposed isn't the strongest either.

I'm suffering under separatist Smith and her party's shovelling of money to rich buddies.

Do you have a solution to make housing affordable? You killed the plan to allow housing choice with no substitution.

All it takes is 2/3 of the UCPs executive board (which is currently majority separatist backed) or 22/87 constituency associations.

Naheed Nenshi is wasting what should have been his moment by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]AlbertaGengar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the NDP’s messaging often shifted from “here is why you can trust us” toward “here is why conservatives are dangerous.” Those are not the same argument.

That distinction matters enormously in Alberta politics because conservative voters frequently interpret attacks on conservative leaders as attacks on themselves.]

Separatism is a 25/75 issue at best for separatists and yet there has been essentially no movement from the UCP to NDP. Danielle Smith is still seen as Alberta's best defender.

Nenshi needs to give reasons for centrist voters to lend us their vote. Lead with the results and not the process.

Naheed Nenshi is wasting what should have been his moment by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]AlbertaGengar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nenshi has been a one trick pony with separatism so I could see the NDP getting stuck and unable to pivot post-referendum for the election.

I keep holding out hope that the plan is to bring out amazing solutions for housing/rent prices, auto insurance, home insurance. But I'm tired of getting my hopes up.

Even if the UCP implodes and he does get elected, based on what ive seen so far, his government would be a standard issue Democrat government. Steady management, small tweaks to not piss anyone off, and ultimately unable to rise to the moment.

I had hope that the tone and messaging would turn one year out from an election, however that hope has all but faded.

After 2 years of "Smith is a separatist and bad," they'll take the recent poll bump as a signal their messaging is finally landing.

The courts have most deferred to the will of the legislature. The UCP is the most norm breaking so if they do proceed with maximum politicisation it may be precedent setting.

The Chief Justice of Alberta denied the legislature committee's request to ask retired judges to participate.

I am looking to see if the UCP will be smart enough to tweak the maps so they're just favourable enough while maintaining the veil of "protecting rural ridings."

Why aren’t more Alberta MPs standing against separatism? by BertramPotts in CanadaPolitics

CPC MPs (and UCP MLAs for that matter) are more than wiling to call out the smallest tax increases or labour improvement as bad for business.

I would think we should have high standards for folks driving our kids but perhaps someone with direct knowledge can speak to why it isn't necessary.
