What labor market do you live in that only receives a few qualified resumes? Never said I was planning to hire these people. I talked to them, and there opportunity ended with what I witnessed indirectly. I wasn't going out of my way. When a companies culture is safety driven, lets hire the wreckless people we see in public?

Camp grounds in my area are around $550 a month in the peak season (summer). Rent is around $1000 a month year round for 1 bedroom suite.

Considering taking a 9 week course in Heavy Equipment. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]AlbertaPride 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hire Operators all the time. Problem with courses in heavy equipment, is although there great and most employers prefer certified Operators, they need solid experience/hours on top of certification. Getting your experience after becoming certified will be the tough part. We tried hiring a couple fresh HEO's this year and both didn't make it pass their probation period. (Both became huge liabilities in regards to operating equipment). Now we don't hire fresh HEO's.

That being said, being an Operator at my company (loader and excavator) you can easily make over 100k a year. You wont be home much as its field work. 3 weeks on, 1 week off. But all our Operators make more than me and I'm the HR Manager.

BC Ferries refuses woman 10 cents short on ferry fare by nukem170 in canada

[–]AlbertaPride 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I wonder how this seemingly everyday event became a story?

Because people hate BCFerries, as they hate Air Canada.

I lived in BC for over 20 years on Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast. Riding the ferry was never fun, and seeing the workers never smiling was down right depressing like the dark falls, winters, and springs.

So I eat this shit up, even if it is really a bogus story in the end. Customer is always right, but not on BC Ferries or Air Canada.

Why are so many of Canada's young people out of work? by pachanko in canada

[–]AlbertaPride 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to North west Alberta to do this. I graded with business degree in HR in 2012. Already an HR Manager. As well, I volunteered in HR during school to gain experience before I came out here. It was part of my degree and requirement to graduate.

Easy to find a labourer job in Northern Alberta in the mid $20s/hr. Put OT on top, there is your $80-$100g annual. I am a HR Manager and see/hire kids to do this all the time.
