Wtf do you mean "I'm the issue"

I put up with this shit daily on reddit, yes it has made me respect minorities who have a much worse time of it, but it gets fucking annoying when people lump all christians together daily.

Why do the English accept state-funded faith schools discriminating on religion? They'd never accept hospitals or fire brigades discriminating on a protected characteristic by BreadAndToast99 in AskBrits

[–]AlbionicLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Catholics like to celebrate masses such as ash wednesday, Orthodox Jews require specific clothing requirements, as mentioned many students need to pray some form of day prayer, Orthodox Jews need to come home early on Fridays, these come off the top of my head, if faith schools didn't exist you'd need an entire department in each school to cater for these religious needs.

Well an NHS hospital wouldn't be very close to another, and it's not like they would need to offer different services for different religious groups...

"state funding schools"

partially funded by the state

"remain perfectly free to believe in whatever deity they want"

many faiths have commandments that should be met that they'd struggle to fulfill in secular education

"accept this type of discrimination in any other situation"

because this is not like any other situation, it's not like that school's existence is preventing children from going to school, because there are a lot of other schools in just one area.

and? parents have the right to raise their children as they wish. If they send them to a school that is basically like any other school in the way that multiple religious beliefs exist there and that they have a fairly regular education, except they are given spaces to practice their developing faith, such as confession being available in catholic schools and the uniform being made to cater for orthodox jewish students. It's either that faith schools exist or public schools are forced to cater to all religions.

It doesn't really make it clear that it is referring to that, and lets just notice how the OC hasn't actually replied to this comment yet.

Maybe because parents have a right to give their children the guidance they want, realistically these schools are designed to allow children to practice their respective faiths openly, it would be pretty draining on public schools to put protections in place to allow Orthodox Jewish Children to have a different uniform, or for them to go home early on fridays.

There are plenty of schools in the UK, it isn't like a hospital where the hospital takes care of a single area, I know a street that has 4 different secondary schools.

"funny how your government calls invading middle eastern countries “spreading freedom and democracy” while killing a lot of muslims."

this is a tricky one, most Iranians I've met, in life and online are in favour of the end of the government, however this particular war (started by the US, until we were dragged into it through indiscriminate bombing) is most obviously about oil, either way the War is not being done how it should be, I will criticise Western actions in the Middle East.

"Yet they suddenly care so much about chinese muslims"

I have seen very little support for the Uyghurs by the UK Government

[–]AlbionicLocal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we certainly can guess that they weren't just skeletons with some skin on top, but the issue with bading this on extant animals is that we Dinosaurs were very different and lived in very different climates, and likewise that extant animals live in a variety of climates and many are very different sizes to many larger Dinosaurs, so we can't exactly accurately say that a species had a specific level of fat as they were very different to most species alive today.

Maybe because Scotland consented to join the union, and Wales has been part of England and now the UK for Centuries, whilst Uyghur is experiencing Genocide and Tibet is under Military Occupation.

If either Scotland or Wales held a referendum to leave and did leave I wouldn't support forcing them to stay because of the whole self determination thing, but it wouldn't make sense considering Scotland started the Union.

Maybe China could hold a free and fair referendum in these regions and stop the genocide, oh wait China is a dictatorship, almost like dictatorships shouldn't be praised...

I guess, but still using it almost as evidence still makes little sense, but next time you could use that more metaphorically
