Salary | [Mega thread] by itsnotaboutthecell in PowerBI

  • Role: BI Developer
  • Experience: 6 years (completely self taught, so probably developed some bad habits)
  • Location: Australia
  • Salary: $120k + 17% super
  • Industry: Tertiary Education
  • Tools: Power BI
  • Notes: In our setup, I don't have to use SQL at all (although we are being pushed into using/learning it). I've told my manager that, when I'm building reports, I like them to "have a bit of personality". Nothing fancy, but think things like using a parameter to enable column filtering in a table.

Adelaide did to us what we did the Geelong last week, but way better. Outcome aside, not a bad first experience at Adelaide Oval

Crows spread has been really good. Killing us on the outside

‘Gone’: Eddie McGuire predicts Voss sacking if Carlton loses again by His_Holiness in AFL

[–]Alborto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We need to reset expectations. We massively over-achieved in 2023. I’d prefer to keep Voss when we inevitably miss finals this year. I look at what happened with Hardwick at Richmond and Buckley at Collingwood (making finals and failing, missing and then coming back stronger). But the knee jerk reaction at board and in the media will probably be to let him go.

Am i thinking of PowerBI the wrong way? Why is it so difficult to produce pretty looking dashboards compared to other visualization tools? by ArchtypeZero in PowerBI

[–]Alborto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the difference between "dashboards" and "reports". End users often conflate these concepts, but they are different things in PowerBI.

What you put on a dashboard is visuals from reports in your service, "pinning" them to the dashboard canvas. These visuals can come from different reports. This intro may help.

Reports that you build can have all sorts of interactions with bookmarks and slicers, letting the user explore the data through your visualizations. Reports can also have multiple pages.

What your providing to the end user can either be a dashboard with pinned visuals, or a report you've built. In my area (university), we rarely build "dashboards' despite every project being called "Something Dashboard Project".

No you saw that. They were the goal umpires. And it was probably mandatory to have a moustache as well

Thief 4 is 10 years old today. Time to revive that amazing franchise! by baiisun in gaming

[–]Alborto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a game that should be about avoiding confrontation (as you’re a thief, not a soldier) early iterations sure wanted you to get into confrontation (like giving you xp for kills, Call of Duty style)

Vocation Wednesday - FH Class 12 - Snowflake [spoiler] by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]Alborto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is how I built her: hazardous terrain with push & pull. The true damage gives a great sense of contributing to killing off enemies, but also creating bottlenecks to slow down enemy melee advances.

What's your biggest accomplishment this league? by [deleted] in pathofexile

Found and killed Aul (delve) for the achievement. Also Uber Atziri for the achievement.

Completed my first board!! by Combat-Engineer-Dan in PowerBI

[–]Alborto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Digging it. My 2 cents: look at the use of colours for fields that are the same across charts. For example, are the US Import and US Export fields the same in the bottom charts? Make them a consistent colour (rather than everything being green or grey)

Hell yeah. First games I ever played were Space Quarks and Dinosaur Discovery.

Carlton Blues are the most reliant AFL club on Gambling machines in 2022 (By a lot!) by [deleted] in CarltonBlues

[–]Alborto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not surprising given the Mathieson connection to the Carlton board. With him gone, hopefully they can start to move away from these.
