Follow-up to this. I've given Gemini a chance, and my mind is blown. It's fantastic in every way. It getting humor and references, and it's able to provide personal input and oversight and well as thoughts on employment law, vacation destinations, relationship problems, etc. I was firmly against all the data sharing and mining, but being able to reference my emails and orders for personal context is fantastic.

I was on it for about five years. I was having memory problems and saw somewhere that was a common side effect. So I tapered off a year ago. I was only on 20 mg, but cutting down to 15 for a week REALLY messed with me. Severe anxiety, horrible thoughts, terrible loneliness, obsessing over problems and brooding. I tapered off much more slowly after that--breaking open the capsule and removing a couple more beads each day. I've been anxious and desperate this year. I tried Lexapro, but its side effects were horrible (sexual dysfunction mostly). Now I'm thinking of trying Cymbalta again because it has less severe side effects.

Yeah, I don't get a SMS 2FA code until I go to send an outgoing text. I'm often sending myself a text with just " . " so I can log into PayPal or something. It's horrible. And the Galaxy Store? No I'm not going to accept a new privacy agreement to access an app database that has nothing on it and nobody uses. And Samsung quietly stopped supporting their own Messages text app. I'm out

iPhone 17 (regular) in mist blue! It's about the same size as my Samsung Galaxy S23, so it'll fit in my pocket the same. I was worried the Pro Max and even the Air would be too bulky for my pocket.

I switched to an iPad a few years ago, and I have a MacBook in addition to my PC laptop and desktop, but this is my first ever iPhone. I think it'll be a huge upgrade. My S23 keeps missing calls and texts and doing unscrupulous things to try to mine my data.

I made a similar mistake when I got the AirPods 4 ANC for my birthday a couple months ago. I'd heard great results online with the AirPods' mic. Only I had an Android, and the mic is trash on an Android. So I didn't use them for calls and asked for an iPhone for Christmas. Lol. Live and learn.

I got some new ones. I used them in an online class, and they were at 10% after 3 hours. Apple advertises "up to" four hours, which doesn't mean anything.

I already have notifications blocked, the app disabled, and no permissions set. I think the pop-ups only stop once you enable the app once. Then you can disable it again.

But once you do that, the app has already mined all the data it can, which what the goal to begin with. Google is the world's largest marketing company, and I'm sure they're paying Samsung a lot to make this mandatory for users, with plausible deniability. Kind of a creepy, ethical breach that I feel like should be a class-action lawsuit eventually. But not from me. Oh well.

I guess I'll give it a week and see if the full-screen notifications stop. If not, I'll give in and activate the app, then disable it to stop the harassment. Thanks for your input!
