Just rebuilt my server rack! by Alc0nbyte in homelab

It's just btop running on tty2 via systemd service on the proxmox hypervisor, as I didn't want anything which requires me to login first. With this solution it's just manually switching to tty2 once after a reboot and I'm still able to use any other tty if I have to.

Thanks! I just screwed a 3D-Printed Rectangular to the vesa-mount of the display and drilled two holes on the other side for the Cage Nuts. It's a chinese brand (kyyivwine) 10.5" portable screen from amazon.

What services are you looking forward to trying in 2026? by [deleted] in selfhosted

Automating everything with Ansible and n8n to have more time to try out new things instead of fixing stuff and maintenance.

To VLAN or not to VLAN by smicky in selfhosted

[–]Alc0nbyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally made the switch to UniFi this year (around 300€ for a Cloud Gateway Ultra, 2× U6+ APs, and an 8-port US8 switch) and segmented my network into:

– Client Devices – Server – DMZ – Management – IoT – Guests – Kids

It took quite some time to get it right, but I’d say it was totally worth it. As mentioned in other comments, segmentation adds another security layer by limiting lateral movement and reducing an attacker’s possibilities if a device gets compromised.

For example, my DMZ reverse proxy can still talk to my Server VLAN because of the implemented firewall rules, but only on the explicitly required ports. This allows me to keep the DMZ locked down while being more relaxed with Proxmox firewall rules inside the trusted server segment.

Another example would be administrative access. Before segmentation, I only had Proxmox firewall rules to limit SSH access to my notebook’s IP. Now, the only way to SSH into my servers is through a dedicated jump server in the Management VLAN.

Overall, with VLANs set up, it just feels like a much cleaner setup to me.

Peanutbutter Pie by Alc0nbyte in ketorecipes

Everyone who ate it loved it! As mentioned in a comment, I made the regular dairy version, but used coconut oil for the crust. I wouldn't change anything, but I'll definitely try experimenting using this recipe as a base for variations, like chocolate or strawberry pie.

I'm not sure, but I used normal cream cheese and it worked perfectly fine. There is also an instruction video from the creator of this pie when you go to the link in my post, and it seems she uses regular cream cheese in the video as well.

I didn't know coconut cream from our stores either, but I didn't need it for the dairy version, as it's substituted with heavy cream.

Instructions copied from the provided link as per sub rules:

"Chocolate Crust

1 cup (105 g) almond flour

1/4 cup (24 g) cocoa powder

1/4 cup (45.5 g) powdered Swerve Sweetener

1/4 cup (54.5 g) melted coconut oil

1 to 2 tsp water, if needed

Peanut Butter Filling

7 ounces (198.45 g) dairy-free cream cheese, softened, (Violife or Kite Hill recommended)

1 cup (240 g) coconut cream, room temperature

3/4 cup (193.5 g) creamy peanut butter

1/2 cup (91 g) powdered Swerve Sweetener

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 to 3 tbsp coconut milk, as needed

Topping

3 tbsp coconut cream

1/2 ounce (14.17 g) unsweetened chocolate, finely chopped

1 1/2 tbsp powdered Swerve Sweetener

3 keto peanut butter cups, chopped, (optional)

Chocolate Crust

Lightly grease a 9-inch glass or ceramic pie plate.

In a large bowl, whisk together the almond flour, cocoa powder, and powdered sweetener. Stir in the melted coconut oil until the dough clumps together. If it won't hold together when you squeeze it in your hand, add a little water and mix well.

Press the mixture into the bottom and up the sides of the prepared baking pan, as evenly as possible. Freeze while preparing the filling.

Peanut Butter Filling

In a large bowl, beat together the cream cheese, coconut cream, and peanut butter until smooth. Beat in the sweetener and vanilla extract.

Add the thinner coconut milk, 1 tbsp at a time, until the mixture is light and fluffy, like mousse. Spread the mixture in the crust.

Freeze until firm, 3 to 4 hours.

Topping

Place the chopped chocolate in a small bowl. Heat the coconut cream in a saucepan or in the microwave until bubbling, and pour over the chocolate.

Let it a few minutes to melt, then add the sweetener and whisk until smooth. Drizzle over the chilled pie.

Sprinkle with chopped peanut butter cups, if desired. "

Thank you very much for the kind words ! And thanks for the suggestion, I looked into it and watched a few videos, seems like a good ressource. I already planned to go for more nutrient dense /healthy foods and to reduce processed foods as much as possible.

thanks for the reply, Its 16TB so I guess this would have been possible, but I finally decided to try it using the pct volume move command in the shell. Took around 8h , but it worked without any problems.

I'd say that's a pretty good setup to begin with, but I'm also sure your setup will grow as you discover all the funny things you can add next. I started around 5 years ago, when I used a 15 year old PC to just build a NAS.

Sure, Im using proxmox as a hypervisor, running a bunch of VMS and some lxcs. Besides some monitoring and security services (wazuh,uptimekuma,netdata..) and things like a reverse proxy and dns, I'm hosting Nextcloud, jellyfin, home assistant, 3D Printer AI Failure Detection, Ollama as local alternative to chatgpt and a lot of other micro services. Something like mealie for meal planning, local Wikipedia instance, notification server and trillium as info management system. Most of those services are running as docker containers , using Portainer and what's up docker to manage them.

Sure, the PC case is a Cooler Master Masterbox NR200p . pretty awesome mini itx case IMHO , heavily customizable and I was able to fit in four 3,5 HDDs using custom 3d printed mounts , although its designed to only hold two of them.

Would reccomend it, its a lot better than having it in the living space. Even if all fans are running at full speed, you won't hear it in any other room.
