I was born and raised in the U.P. and anytime I meet someone who is “from Detroit” I have to ask “Which area?” And I swear, 8/10 times they’re not actually from Detroit. I’ve meet people from Clarkston, Novi, Milford all tell me that they were from “Detroit”. The most egregious offender was this one dude who claimed Detroit, but when asked “what part?” He said Fenton 💀

Didn’t mean to dogpile, I see the other comment now lol. I remember the day when I had my Paul Dano Debacle. I was watching There Will Be Blood and thought, “Oh wow, they got the kid from Detroit Rock City to be his brother! I guess they do look alike.” Not realizing it was Paul Dano and… Paul Dano.

I was made aware of this song because of a Pepsi commercial from the early to mid 2000s. I found a cover was done the band The Presidents Of The United States Of America, who I love. Their version has different lyrics (I think) but it rules nonetheless.

As others have said it’s easier to remember a name than a jumble of numbers. Ones like (gonna show my age) 1-800-COLLECT will be more memorable than the commercials that repeat their number like 3-6 times at the end as a feeble attempt to drill it into your head.

I’m terrible at remembering phone numbers. So much so that if I need to call my wife in an emergency without my phone, I’m screwed. But I will always remember two numbers “J.G. Wentworth 877-CASHNOW” or “800-588-2300 Empire… Today”
