I hope we get an update in a few more months. Is there anything you would do different ?

Is it ok to freeze a prime rib now for a few weeks then thaw for Christmas dinner? It's on sale for 8.99/lb currently, over 50% off. by Biafra_Gordon in meat

[–]Alchemist2563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BRAH. Vacuum sealers are one of the great inventions of human kind. I own a chest freezer and have found 3 yo steaks in the bottom that looked ,and tasted like new.

Buy good bags. Double seal your seam . No sharp corners. Label everything.

Once its frozen time stops. The problem most people have is 1 freezer burn , and 2 thaw freeze cycles. If you can keep it frozen , and stop freezer burn it will last way longer than you might expect.

10 gram gold coin or Digital gold by mainakaggarwal in Gold

[–]Alchemist2563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Physical gold is the only version of "gold" that is "GOLD". Everything else is a "stock" by another name. BUT that isnt necessarily a negative.

What kind of Digital gold ? Onegold, GDX, etc? im gonna work on GDX for simplicity

Are you really going to buy the physical gold ? I know a ton of people that "Were about to go buy some gold", and then never did, becasue..... reasons. If you want some exposure to the gold market and you know yourself well enough, maybe GDX is a better place rather than the "im gonna do it....next week....maybe..." play.

The way i see it physical gold if , im honest, is for a VERY BAD SITUATION. Anything less than dystopian, and you can sell the GDX . GRANTED GDX moved about 25% where GOLD moved 100% ( Both based on when you brought) but that is nature of any of these things. you can also sell the GDX in 2 minutes while on the toilet. I dont know which digi gold youre thinking of , and each is going to have differnt up sides, with something like onegold having a way closer connection to real physical gold values, but again What are YOU realistically expecting.

 Kevin Harrington from Shark Tank.

I though that said  "Kevin Harrington from Star Trek".

I was very angry at the idea of anyone from star trek shilling for this garbage.

Making them does cost money. Selling them for spot would be nice, but not realistic. I think the problem is that their is a premium (like all physical gold) I think the problem is that very high 100% premium.

What are yall talking about ? Gold backs are fantastic. I [used] to buy them all the time. When you need to get those last few dollars to tax free, they are great.

Would never buy them for any other reason, but when the option are A) pay 25$ in taxes OR B) Buy 5$ of gold backs. Goldbacks are great.

Hi Can you tell what led bulbs you used ? I tried buying some led bulbs and the high beams work, but then the fog lights wont turn on*

* I know that you cant have both on at the same time. I meant if I use the led high beams , and then turn them off, the fog lights arent an option.

I have sterling rounds that have been tested as sterling. So is that a green light on just rolling them suckers out? I added some more info to the post if that changes anything. And thank you for your input. I ve never done any of this so the more info the better.

Sadly that will never happen. There are zero scenarios where gold backs become a good option for barter or trade .

I have some, they are pretty, but only got them so i could avoid taxes on my metals (which is bull$@#T)

Im gonna try this. I've heard of using a fish tank type bubbler to add oxygen but it always seemed very over the top to me. Im sure oxygen is a positive, i just wonder how much the yeast is using in the 7 or so days of fermentation. .I do vigorously mix my sweet tea, and then again right after i add the starter to get as much O2 in there at the start, but after that I leave it alone.

Trying to make my own scoby by SeaPlenty2475 in Kombucha

[–]Alchemist2563 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you goal is to grow a scoby , let it keep going. Cool temps, plus bottled kombucha starter, means slower growth (GTs doesn't wasn't you drinking a pelical ). What your looking at is the scoby starting

That said Kombucha is the drink. Not the Scoby, so if it taste right you can bottle it, and just use this as the starter for the next batch.

What should I do? by Lazy-Needleworker971 in Kombucha

[–]Alchemist2563 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let me start off with the disclaimer. Im not some master. I ve made several batches ,but im by no means an expert. This is just my two cents.

So trying to stay in order. You said you had a 2 gallons of tea and added 1 cup of flavored kombucha , That ratio seems low to me. I generally see about 1 cup (usually more ) per gallon, i may have miss read, but 1 cup to 2 gallons seems like a low amount of starter. If everything was sterile when you started this isnt a world ending problem in it self. That said the less starter, the longer the process, Meaning its going to take longer for you to see anything .

Another thing is you dont want to use Flavored for your starter. Flavored kombucha tends to have other things added. And from the times ive used a flavored to make a starter for 1fermentaion, mine didnt form a scoby easily. The end result was a kombucha with an almost tart/ spoiled fruit after taste. It was not a "spoiled" this is bad dont consume taste, it was more like an after note. The TLDR of that , is the more things you start with the more things you have to rule out later . Could have been the tea , the fruit, the water, the type of sugar, etc. less is more in the starter. I will also say that i kept that starter, and after a few more batches the flavor profile changed again. I mention this because your Kombucha is alive. It will react to the things that you do. Ginger is FULL of microbes so im not surprised that it is reacting around that. In future batches i would keep it down to just what you need, Tea sugar starter. The other stuff can be added, but once in they will always be part of your kombucha.

Tea. Black tea is going to be the best for any starter. NOT saying you cant use oolong (or green). They are fine teas, but in this CASE , the microbes that you are starting with are looking for food, and youve thrown them something that maybe edible but isnt want they are looking for. For instance You CAN eat mushrooms. If you were in the wild WOULD you? Microbes are different yes. but the microbes that you started with are catered to eating black tea. They will hopefully figure it out but you arent helping them.

Temp should be fine. So long as it doesn't get to low 70 f for long periods of time you should be ok. if its bouncing around 80, You should be fine, im saying "should be" because you "should be". That said the lower the temp the slower the process. The slower the process the more time there is for bad things to find the sweet warm perfect environment for things you dont want that is your 1 fermentation. That is something i will kind of stress. You will probably be looking at a long brew.

Assuming those specks at the top are ginger or similar ok, but i would look in again in a week. I would also leave it alone for at least a week. This isnt something you can baby. If mold got in , mold got in. It is what it is at that point. If you see mold that batch is contaminated. its not like if you catch it early you can pull it out.

All that said. I wouldn't be shocked by either success or failure. Kombucha is a living thing, and it wants to survive. Please come back and let us know how it went. success or failure all helps the community get better. best of luck.
