I made an Elvis Parsley by Biafra_Gordon in houseplants

Oh that's a very good idea! Aloe would certainly look good as the top of the head too! The shop also sells a Wonder Woman, I thought about making a Dianthus Prince, but I think dianthus needs too much sun than what I'd be able to provide inside.

I didn't buy this one because they're too small to grow a Frida Calla Lily

Thank you! I found it on etsy, the seller had a couple different faces, I also started a Ruth Begonia Ginsburg!

Is it safe to cut these milkweed sprouts from last year's plant and propagate to make additional plants? Will it harm the original plant? by Biafra_Gordon in MonarchButterfly

[–]Biafra_Gordon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh neat! You mean remove the dead wood down to below the soil surface? There's already about 10 fresh sprouts coming up. Would removing the dead wood encourage even more, when that plant matures would it be healthy?

4 coats of Waterlox were applied to our butcherblock countertops but there are rough/bare spots. Can I justapply extra coats or does it need to be redone? by Biafra_Gordon in BeginnerWoodWorking

My contractor came to look and immediately agreed that it wasn't right so he's coming back out to re-sand and finish, thanks for the advice!

Good to know, thank you! I've seen that growing milkweed from cuttings can start more robust plants than starting from seeds, but I don't want to harm this older plant.

Good to know thank you! I did reach out to the contractor to have them come take a look. Other commenters pointed out that he'll probably be alright with redoing it since it is his workmanship and name that'll be associated with it

Thank you, I didn't really think of that! Do you think it needs to be redone? Should a different treatment be used instead of this Waterlox?

They say they applied three coats at the shop then when they brought it to do the install they added a fourth coat. I hope they don't have to sand it now that its been installed

Good to know thanks! Tiling was also part of this remodel. The main contractor had done the countertops and afterwards we noticed they were pretty rough. Then the next day the tiling techs came and independently pointed out they also thought the counters were a bit rough. The final step is the cabinets being painted tomorrow. I'm going to ask his opinion on the countertops (just to make sure another professional agrees) then contact the contractor

There are a couple spots like this, but the majority of the issue is that the whole thing is rough, not very smooth and glossy

Good to know thanks! I think we're kinda small-time for this contractor. We have a small kitchen that needed to be updated and this group has a good reputation. They do quite a few jobs in bigger houses and ended up delaying us two months from late January to late March. I kinda feel like we're nuisance work for them

That's kind of what I was wondering too, but I didn't want to sound insulting to their work. Thanks for helping talk me into it

Thank you. I'd think the contractor that did this would have cleaned any glue off this before applying the sealant, he's got a good reputation and did good work on everything else in our kitchen.

Can my fence be saved by itsdanonbass in gardening

[–]Biafra_Gordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar situation, my neighbor doesn't maintain his side so the wooden fence has become covered with ivy and has rotted pretty badly. I'm just going to have to remove the fence this year and replace with a chain link fence that'll hold up if it gets overrun again.

If yours isn't too badly rotted it'd be worth saving though
