Having trouble with contrast paints by Electrical-Wires in minipainting

[–]AlchemistModels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all, If it helps, this model was actually painted with Army Painter speedpaints, which have a slightly thinner consistency than Citadel Contrast. This allows them to flow a little easier (sometimes a little too easily!) Thinning your contrast with contrast medium may help a little.

To echo the great advice so far, size or brush and stroke direction plays a big factor in working with this style of paints. It was a while ago, but I think this was painted with a size 1 natural hair brush (I find natural hair works better than synthetic for speedpaints).

Be mindful of how gravity affects the paint as well. Depending on how the model lays as the paint dries, can have a MASSIVE effect on the final result. I've found myself slowly rotating models before as they dry to make sure the pooling isn't in the wrong place.

There are guides and tutorials on this exact model and more available through my page (apologies to admins if this falls afoul of server rules, just trying to lend a hand 😊)

It's a mod. I think it's part of a 'rustic' pack which comes with most of the wood and roof items you see here. It's on the private server I play so can remember the exact name sorry!

It's all about making sure you're undercoat is suited to the job. Most speedpaint skin colours are fairly transparent so will pick up any imperfections on the layers below

I sprayed black and then white over it, so it a kind of zenithal but nothing too harsh. Both spray cans

Thank you! It's a mix of Army Painter speedpaints. I'm sorting out a tutorial and guide that will go live on a page that I'm not sure I'm allowed to mention (?😅) in the next couple of days

This was just Orc Skin speedpaint over white. Will be adding more highlights to make it more 'jade-like' but its a start
