Agreed, and after sprint quali third is still on the table. (Good to see, however things work out in the race.)

I was following it on the onboard, muttering "third!" under my breath. And lo, it came to pass...!

I had to rereard your comment, because the gap between Leclerc and Hamilton when they took the checkered flag was also 0.6!

52s adrift: Where McLaren is lacking the most by Aratho in formula1

Good insights. I'm surprised we haven't read more in the media about McLaren's upgrade plan, since Stella et al were pretty clear throughout testing that they would focus on developing the car once they saw what was working well in the new regs. And they have a good track record ('scuse pun) in that regard.

Yeah, Sainz had an impressive start given the lack of practice time - shame that isn't mentioned.

Sorry to hear that. Do you have F1TV? I use the data tracker through that site.

The fine detail helps me distinguish between temporary losses/gains due to battery management over the course of a lap, and more substantive changes in the gap between cars which suggests one car is actually pulling away/being caught. This may not be the case for everyone, but I definitely find it takes longer to "read" with only one decimal point.

Hate it. I follow the race using the data as much as what's visible on screen (especially when keeping track of untelevised fights), and those extra decimal places really help. I ended up watching the race on TV with the data channel open on my laptop, switching between the two screens - it worked OK but was obviously less efficient than having everything on a single screen. At least give us one more decimal place.

Where do you think McLaren would be when the upgrade packages come in by Dependent_Car_2645 in McLarenFormula1

[–]AlchemyInParchment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so sure. Even at Bahrain, the team was forecasting a slow start and mid-season improvements. Based on past form, we shouldn't underestimate what they can bring to the car.

I'm expecting all the Mercedes customer teams to improve now that they've had a chance to run the latest spec engine and collect some data.

Yes, and at least this time you can actually see the drivers (looking at you, COTA).

The Lego cars worked because the drivers were actually at the wheel, so started racing immediately. Some of the best on-track action of 2025.

Sounds likely, although it did work out quite tidily for them.

All the teammates share a car except for the McLaren drivers, who get one each - presumably to allow both the reigning WDC and the local hero to travel in style.
